M1 GARAND

Finally picked up my first Garand. It's been on my wish list for a few years. I'm not fully educated on the Garand but that's part of the fun. This one has post WWII, HRA receiver and barrel ( Built during the Korean War). SA bolt and trigger are WWII production. Haven't checked the op rod yet. It has a beautiful a CMP pumpkin birch stock.( Probably doesn't appeal to the purists) Rated service grade, with muzzle reading of 1 and a throat reading of 2. I'm pretty stoked to have this as my first Garand. I'll look to get a USGI , walnut stock rifle next time.

Please share your pics if you have them.

Nice. I'll agree, I don't love the stock Otherwise, congrats! It doesn't have to be pretty to be a whole lot of fun!
Admit it- you've already been playing with ejecting a clip! I know I do every time the Garand comes out Mark W.

Back in a '94 YJ! Well, after I sink $$$$ into it...

That's a sharp looking rifle. I like the stock.

I think this thing is finally coming together. Still Needed: drive shafts, frame mount rails...then done son! For a while...

Nice! I just picked up a "CMP special grade .308". I don't care that it is not 30-06 because I'm going to shoot the crap out of this one and don't have to buy a different cal. of ammo (have AR10 also). Maybe someday I'll get one as a collector. Have fun with it and forget about the "purists".

Today I played with ejecting the clip. My son comes in and says "I know that sound". He's a Call of Duty firearms expert. My favorite thing about firearm ownership is sharing with my kids.

Beautiful stock color. That's a heavy ass weapon. My ex had a throat reading of 2.4. and a muzzle reading of 1.

Head to the gun show or the local surplus place and buy some short clips for it.

Reason being is that anyone you let shoot it will want to empty the clip so they can hear/see it "shing" out.

The short clips allow everyone to experience the fun.

I can take all kinds of rifles and pistols out on a shooting day. EVERYONE wants to shoot the Garand. Rightfully so, it's a piece of history and it shoots like a dream.

Have fun !

LOL, now you have me thinking. Can a partially filled en block clip be loaded into the magazine? I haven't tried. Short clips are 5 rounds?

You can load an empty or partially loaded clip in no problem- just be sure to hold the bolt open!

Also, you don't know slide-bite pain until you get your fingers bit by a Hakim. They literally snap the bolt carrier forward with enough force to break a finger- used to happen in Egypt a lot with trainees, so they built .22 trainers in single-shot Mark W.

Good knowledge. Thanks for that bit of info about the Egyptian Hakim
