New JW Speaker Head Lights '8700 Evolution'

Just saw on JW Speakers FB page that they have a new head light called the '8700 Evolution'. Not really sure the difference between the 8700 Evolution and the 8630.

"You'll still need the H4-H13 conversion harness, But no need to grind down the head light ring" Quoted from their FB page.

That is the difference. You answered your own question. You no longer need to cut the headlight bucket to mount them. They also come with a wiring extension but you will still need the adapter harness.

I see... Thanks.

I figured they improved the light output, more shallow design, etc.

Too bad I already modified my headlight buckets to fit the 8700's or I'd get the 8700 Evolutions...

I am curious to see pricing and if they did change the light output at all. Looks similar to the 8700 just no cutting which is great.

It looks like you get about 150 more lumens in low beam on the new light, and it is shallower so the headlight bucket doesn't need to be trimmed.

The new light goes on sale tomorrow, so we should know more about pricing then. I am hoping for the price to be similar to the new truck light.

I contacted JW Speaker today about these. They are going to be priced the same as the previous version 8700's.

Correct, and according to our JW rep the only difference will be the silver face as an option.

Perhaps I can shed some light (pun intended) on the matter.

The "old" 8700 was mainly one part number.
The "new" 8700 Evolution has 4 part number:
- Light with Black Bezel, no front positioning light (similar setup like old 8700)
- Light with Black Bezel, w/ front positioning light
- Light with Chrome Bezel, no front positioning light
- Light with Chrome Bezel, front positioning light

Other changes include, but are not limited to:
- Not so deep housing like the 8700 - no sensors have to be relocated on JKs.
- H4 connector on cable, not fixed to the housing - for more flexibility.
- Polycarbonate lens insted of glas
- no more heating available

Regards,
Jan

Does anyone know how these compare to the projectors that the one vendor makes? I know his are like $400. I haven't look into these much but I think I remember them being around $1k.

Hi guys. Greetings from Brazil. Soon to be owner of a 2012 JKU bright silver, I'm having a hard time trying to pick one of the 8700 Evolution options. I can only imagine two possible configurations for a silver wrangler.
1- Black mesh grill + Black 8700 Evo + black 6045 JWS fog lights + smoked Go Recon LED markers
2- Stainless mesh grill + Chrome 8700 evo + Chrome 6045 + Clear Go Recon LED markers.

The lack of installed chrome finish pictures on internet is not helping me with my dilemma.
I've learned from JKashat that using a Rallylights harness for the 8700 would prevent them to flicker. So I have emailed Ray (Rallylights) and he has confirmed that the
HL28130J harness would perfectly fit and by doing so, there would be no use for the H4 to H13 adapters.
Ray has also advised me that one should use caution when connecting the JWS fog lights directly to the factory fog lights wiring since the CanBus could shut down the fog lights due to overcurrent if they used 55w or higher. Did any of you guys experienced any problems with JWS fog lights ??
And last but not least, how about the Go Recon signal and flare markers? Any suggestion concerning wiring or install tricks ?
Thank you.

Can anyone confirm that the new version no longer has the heating feature? That was the main factor that set these apart from the Trucklights for me.

Stay tuned Jared - there will be a headlight shootout done on this site soon. I believe JW Speaker is also participating so you'll be able to see them stacked up against each other.

Actually, they could alread be orded with chrome housing (HD), with a cable and had poly lenses. I ordered mine last year and it came with a 3 wire cable and no harness, I soldered on my own H13 connector for plug and play. Also they have poly lenses.

Just spoke to Susquehanna Motor Sports, I forgot the guys name but he is the actual guy that builds the harnesses for H13 - H4 and was very knowledgable. HL28130J is the part number for the upgraded wire harness. He said the stock harnesses are garbage and cannot handle the new JW Speaker lights. He got real technical on me and I lost what he was saying but this should fix the problem.

www.rallylights.com

If anyone else is having the same issue with flickering or melted connectors here is the fix.
