Leave key in, battery dies???

If I leave my key in the ignition, even in the off position, I can hear a little pump or something cycle every 5 minutes or so. If I forget & leave it in, the battery is dead the next day. (always park in the garage)

Any clues or is this normal??

Also, cant seem to listen to the radio if doors are off w/o having key in. Doesnt seem to be an auxillary position on ignition, it just keeps cycling.

Any clues?
Thanks

Leaving the key in will probably not let some modules go to sleep, causing an excessive parasitic draw, killing the battery.

Putting the key 'in' and turing it forward one click should get you just radio. Doors or no doors.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if it's normal?? I talked to the service writer when I had my recall work done, he just stared at me like a deer in the headlights.

Most likely the anti-theft unit sensing the key. Additionally, there is a piece in the ignition that makes the truck chime to tell you you left your key. This is definitely staying on even after you shut the door and the chime stops.

I have been leaving my keys in the ignition at home ever since I bought my 2010 in march. I just pull them out a little but leave them in there, and have never heard any thing. just saying that's all.

I see, I haven't tried leaving it in a little. I just pull it out religiously now. Thanks

That's what I was thinking. Others on here say it happens to them as well.
I'm so confused, lol.

Thanks for the reply. I never leave my key in any more, and the battery is always fine.

Thanks for the reply!

x2

I leave mine in all the time as well and often don't start it for a couple weeks at a time. I have never had a problem.

Condition of your battery as well as climate will play a role.
Are people leaving key in with doors off or doors on? What electronic accessories have each person added andhowhave they tapped in for power? There are many stock items that will draw curent and too many aftermarket add ons that wills well.
I just don't think it's as cut and dry as just leaving the key in or not.

Well, this only happens when I leave the key in, not even turned to assc.
When I stick the key in i hear something cycle.
I just don't leave it in anymore.
Thanks

I understand that is the only thing different you do.
What I meant by not being cut and dry is when comparing to what other guys are doing.
Just a guess but you may be hearing your fuel pump.

Gotcha, it prolly is my fuel pump. Retarded that it would come on before I turn the key.
