Randomly, keyfob won't unlock doors

I had this problem last winter, then once the weather warmed up, it went away all spring/summer/fall. It just happened again for the first time this year. Maybe this only happens when it gets cold.

I swear I'd seen other threads about this same issue, but can't find any of them anymore. Maybe the thread I remember is from that other forum...

Sometimes, very randomly, I'll go to unlock the jeep with my keyfob remotely, and nothing happens. I can press buttons all I want on my key, and nothing. Lock, unlock, alarm... nothing. Like the keyfob is dead.

I'll use the key manually to open the door, the alarm goes off, stick the key in the ignition and turn it to silence the alarm... then the keyfob works again just fine.

REALLY f'n annoying.

Not a dead/dying battery on the keyfob, replacing it last year didn't help at all. It just went away gradually as the weather warmed up (I guess).

Anyone know if there's a fix? REALLY don't want to have to go into my local Jeep dealership's service department. Those guys are useless liars and crooks - notoriously well-known as the worst service department in the state.

it's probably your WCM module, wireless control module. It is mounted inside the steeering column.

Been following this subject on JF for a while. Last I heard Chrysler has acknowledged there is a problem and working on a fix.

Mine seems to act up when my wife and I are both using the Jeep. Suddenly the computer doesn't recognize one of the keys. Pulling the battery out of the key resets it, but that is a PITA in freezing weather. I'd guess it is a software problem with the random number generator in the alarm system.

I dont know about the issue, but when you put the key in the door, turn it to the right first, (Which locks the door) It will turn on your interior light, then when you turn it to the left to unlock the door it will disarm the alarm.

When you do that the JK knows your unlocking the door with a key rather than using a slim jim to unlock it, so no alarm

no jeep here...

I had to get all my keys replaced. I had three. All died within a couple weeks of each other.
