We now have ignition coil options for the 3.6

Hey gang...

If you are running forced induction like me, you may want to consider upping your spark voltage. I had been looking for upgrade coils and then gave up.

It looks like the usual suspects in ignition performance both have recently released upgraded ignition coils.

Getting some immediately!!!

MSD (cheaper than RIPP and available in red or black):

Hmmm. There seems to be a conspicuous absence of actual tech data on any of these... RIPP says 10% more power, but the other offer no hint of specs.

Agreed. I noticed the same thing pretty much immediately. Even so, 10% could probably be described as scant vs significant in the world of ignition system improvements. I think the OEM 3-wire Mopar coils represent a more significant jump in terms of measured jowels, though I can't find any documentation on that now in retrospect.

I'm going to give Accel and MSD a call in the next few days to see if they will offer up some sort of improvement over stock beyond lame colors.

Just got off of the phone with MSD. They own Accel and that the MSD coils are different from the Accels and a little better. Did not explain why.

These coils are supposedly better because the windings inside of the coils are more evenly spun around the core. This is supposed to give you a more consistent spark voltage across coil packs. Apparently it is/was somewhat of a problem with the stock coil packs in that the output is somewhat inconsistent.

He would not tell me exactly how much more output these coils have but did acknowledge that they do have a little more output as a result of the windings.

The MSD guy knew about and corroborated the fact that the newer Pentastars have a three wire coil pack instead of two wires like our 2012-2016 models have and that these were higher voltage. They probably will eventually have coil packs for the higher energy three wire systems at some point.

My suspicion is that RIPP is just OEMing these from MSD with their own color and markings. In other words, all three of the above mentioned parts are likely the same - just pic your favorite color or shop based on the lowest price at the time.

The Accel seems to be the least expensive and then the MSD a couple of dollars more per coil and then the RIPPs.

Probably I will hold off on this in favor of wiring in a set of three-wire coils from the newer engine.

Okay, just ordered a set of the MSD coils in black (we don't need no red, yellow or orange coils).

Best price was at Jeg's with no tax or shipping and a SAVE30 coupon code.

Edit:
Order MSD part number 827363 instead of the individual coils which are listed as a separate part number. Less expensive this way.

RIPP is claiming in the comments of their video that their coils are making 29HP and that the MSD coils are just stock replacements.

I think this is just more marketing BS from them. Probably just a rebrand. If not MSD/Accel then someone else.

Just throwing out there that NGK has a coil for the 3.6 as well. Thiers has been out a while and while it is likely high quality, it is just an OEM replacement.
