Building my own light wiring harnes

So I just ordered a 52 inch light bar and 4, 4 inch pods. Instead of using a pre made harnes that will need to be modified I just thought I'd start from scratch. I have a 52 inch bar and the 4 4" pods with a pilar pod mount with 4 switches - https://www.quadratec.com/products/12500_2350.htm

I also ordered these back up lights - https://www.amazon.com/Nilight-Drivi.../dp/B00J5AAX5S

and need to run from the back bumper to the engine compartment then back to the pilar switch

Question is what gage wire and what relays do in need, and a wiring diagram

Thx!

Now, asking prior to site: searching is sorta expected from newer members but tsk-tsk, my “500+” or more posts friend;
https://www.jkowners.com/forum/electr...ng-basics.html

on the YooToob , bleepin has a DIY lightbar harness video, as well.

I’ll attribute this slackdome to too much eggnog ...

Why not use pre-made wire harness for it?

heres a thread worth looking at for info - https://www.jkowners.com/forum/electr...aytekwire.html

consider each set of lights as a separate circuit. add up total wattage (52"= 300 watts/12 volts= 25 amps) so you would need a 30 amp relay.

What are your thoughts on the back up lights?

IMO they sell LED bulbs that go into the stock housing which are pretty bright. Unless your bumper already has holes to mount aux backup lights, I wouldn't bother. Or at least wire them separately on a switch. much more useful.

OK j3ff3ry_j33p, looking back at it it was pretty lame, especially asking for a wiring diagram, not a complete excuse but I was just coming out of the flu and a little board and delerious from 9 days on the couch.

That said the lights should be here next week and I don't have a problem cutting a hole in the bumper, from the reviews and the install pics I've seen I think I'll be happy with them, I live in a real rural area with virtually no street lights, it's friggin dark around here, I want to be able to see, I'll wire them to the pillar switch I don't want to blind any seniors at the mall. I also ordered these and will up grade the bulb https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...940_em_1p_0_im

I don't want to go with a premade harnes because I already have the switches and I can just buy rolls of wire, cut to size, no waste, and just get the relays, I think I may have a couple on hand

I'll post again when the lights come in

Thx!

If you will have needs for the extra wire then yes you'll save money. Otherwise a full wiring kit is 10 bucks on amazon.

Otherwise 14 gauge wire for the backup lights. 40 amp relay, 30amp fuse is what came with my harness so that should be good for yours.

THIS diagram might help for you.
this is the diagram for the one I bought.
