Check Out My Starter!!! WTF???

So, my JK has been having starter issues. Autozone tells me it's the starter, other places tells me it's the battery. I replaced the starter, and now, my battery is dead> about to buy the new Optima, but that's another story. I pulled out my starter, and i'm hoping all this black Sut/residue, is only from my starter, and hoping it's not from my clutch/flywheel/transmission...ect... Anyone ever see this before? My gear's arent really worn down... So i'm lost. I don't know what the next step is, after i spend the 180 on a battery, and my jeep still wont start tonight.
Oh yea, What's better Red Top or Yellow Top??
I've got a 12" JBL & 500Watt JBL Amp with some JBL 6x9's...
And of course Wheeling once a month or so.

DAMN, that was quick. Well I'm glad that's clutch dust. Unless that's some abnormal amount of clutch dust and my clutch is shot? The one i got from the salvage shop didn't have shit on it, and i didn't think they cleaned it really, because it still had the grease all over it. It wasn't dirty, but it wasn't clean? i dont know if that made sense. Anyways, thanks for the replys, and @ KSJeep, i don't want to spend $400 on batteries, that's nutts. Why 2 Yellows?

Winching capacity/load on charging system and if engine is inop, capability to run accessories off one battery, and never kill your starting battery. Costs another $200 or so for the kit too! lol

So, got home, read the reveiws between the duralast gold and the optimas and found more positive feedback on the duralast, and too many negatives on the optima's. Plus the duralast only ran me 90 bux. Best part, The Muff Diver just startered up like a Champ.

X2 sears for batteries. I have had a few optimas and they just don't handle sitting in the garage. The jeep is not my daily driver but gets driven at least once a week and for whatever reason the optimas do not handle that well. No problems with a duralast.
