thanks so far 4 days taking off today. I can only work on it during the weekends travel all week. I ran out of parts anyway to mount the radio ect plus I finally got audio so im happy. jchmelo go for it I love this thing if you go for it consider the full tuffy console. you can put a radio in there for when you dont feel like lugging the ipad out and you can lock the ipad in there for the short runs to the store and you would look like a jackass hauling it buying milk.

Did you have the GPS radio before, if so, what do you do for that, use Google Maps?

I gave all the pics to give people ideas cause i know id love a thread like this. Im not looking to make these not at least until i finish mine. I can only work on this during the weekends so its taking some time. I might be willing to make the switch pods at a later date.

I wanted a couple things from this install.

1) ipad must be as protected as it can get
2) it must look as factory as possible
3)there must be a regular radio in case i dont feel like brining the ipad and still want tunes
4) it must be easily removable or its useless
5) it has to charge and have hardwired audio

(the switch panel was an afterthought) I had some daystar lower panels laying around from a previous idea that i never did.

materials used

2 otterbox ipad cases ( ipad never has to come out of the case)
clarion m309 marine radio (going in tuffy full console)
clarion mw2 remote (going above cluster so i never have to open the tuffy console to control head unit)
1 daystar top panel ( dont bother! the stupid pocket in the front is a PITA to get lined up with the top of the ipad)
2 lower daystar panels
abs sheets
Sync cable with rca's and a USB for power
USB power adapter( seems the first one doesn't charge that fast ordered a new one) crossing fingers. Same spec as home charger if it works I'll post a link.
a whole mess of plastic products (stuff isn't cheap) grrrr
sanding and time

I am happy to answer any ?s or if you have any comments on ideas I'd like to hear them.

the top panel i will sand and repaint I dont like the finish.

How are you playing the iPad through the jeep speakers?

Have I mentioned it looks GREAT....

You would happen to live in NJ, would ya.....

** hey,are you the same mattymat04 from LI that ordered a mount from that DB over at cop4x4 for like $300? If so, i like yours better! What happened with that? Did he ever send it?

Long island not to far. All I did was get a iPad av cord. It goes to my m309 clarion marine radio with the aux in. And i can control that radio with the external control that you see in the pics above so i never have to get to that radio in my tuffy console. That way I always have tunes even without the iPad if i want and everything is as safe as it's gonna get.

And yes same person (i doubt many have such a gay screen name) nope haven't received actually cancelled the order after a month and a half decided i can tackle this on my own once i came up with a plan of attack. Trying to switch my order to something else been in the works 3 weeks not sure what's up.

Matt,

I am so unbelievably impressed with your install, as this is just sick! I have been toying with what I want to do for my Audio/Nav/Touchscreen at somepoint, and you've really given me some great ideas.

Very, very, sick, install. Well done.

RC

A lot of chit coming...

That's really awesome. And to think I thought the ipad was totally useless....

Any estimates how much this cost you?
