Backup camera wiring?

Has anyone wired their own backup camera?

The back of the OEM head unit has three wires that the adapter harness plugs into. Some of the camera harnesses employ just one wire and others use all three. The camera itself I think just has two wires on a coaxial cable with coaxial connector. The shield is the ground.

I think what we have here is a signal wire, a ground wire and a shield (the "third" wire).

The "shield" is usually tied to ground but I wonder if others are just wiring up the 2 wires with success.

How are other folks handling the 2 versus 3 wire thing?

Are you leaving the ground and the shield disconnected at the back of the rado or splicing them together at some point.

I suspect that the three wire harness just tie the ground and shield together at the coaxial connector you plug into the camera's connector.

The camera I use just has 2 RCA's with one being video/ground and the other power/positive

This makes things easy - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yup, I have one of those but I think from a different vendor.

I hacked mine up and cut off everything that I did not need.

The video cable is for sure shielded. The question is where the shield is tied to ground because that can affect how well it shields or introduces noise. And I think you want to tie it to ground at only *one* end of the shield versus both.

Probably I will just wire it in and see how it goes. I still have the parts sitting in the drawer of my tool box.

I grounded mine as close to the camera as possible.
Then tapped the power outlet in the back, and switched the M7 fuse to make it hot with ignition

Rear Camera

I just made my own mounting plate for the Poison Spyder Rear Tire carrier, and since I ran the wires through the tube I made my own RCA video wire. Depending on the Camera some have additional wires for parking lines. However the RCA wires will have the negative wire exposed once cut and remove the outer insulation. Than the other wire will have insulation on it (this is the positive wire). The camera will have a seperate wires for power and ground. Some use another RCA wire to do the power and ground. Same thing as the video RCA wire.
