How can I disable the transponder key??

Yup, I know am I in the jeep theft business??

Nope, building a poor man's Brute using my 98 TJ and the complete running gear from an 08 JK Rubicon.... (less the axles)

Anyway, I really would like to do my own security and bypass the transponder crap! The price of the keys pisses me off!!

Now, at first I thought the computer was where the key signal went to, but now I'm not so sure??

Does anyone know if the Key talks to the computer, or if it talks to the switch on the end of the ignition tumbler??

Or ??

If you know, but would rather not post such details, PM, Email or text/call me

Thanks, Mike.

PS: I can provide the VIN if you want??

There is no bypass for the system.
What the aftermarket installers do to circumvent the system is they get a chip key and program it and just take the chip potion of it and glue it to the underside of the lock cylinder.
The system works via a module that has a ring around the lock cylinder. That module reads the chip and sends it to the TIPM and the PCM to allow the vehicle to start.

Ok, found the ring module thing...

I bet if a person knew which signal wire went from the module to the PCM.....

Thanks for the info....

I'll keep diggin.

If it were that easy we wouldn't get cars in our shop with broken columns.
They would all be in Mexico.
Basically it cannot be done.
Not be be a downer though.
Good luck trying.

ya, I can't be an easy thing if at all...

I took the module apart and I see that the key when inserted will generate a current in the module ring around the key. This current then will , I assume signal the circuit board which in turn will send a signal to the PCM... or maybe ground the PCM through one of the 8 wires going to this module...

see pic for schematic...

dig dig dig....

Ok, starting to get the picture on this....

In the above schematic, the module and the PCM interact through the + and - CAN C Bus connections on the module...

So unless I design a computer to connect and then "Hack" the system, it will not happen.....

Nope, I'm not in that league.

So I think I might use the above "cheat" and glue the "chip" somewhere hidden and then I can have a regular key and still have my own security system....

Thanks again OWTDORZ for the info, it made me do some research

If it's just key prices and you still have the two original keys you can get the $12 transponder key on ebay and program it using the directions in the owners manual.

Just a thought.

Good luck and make sure to take lots of pics of your build.
