Cruise Control Disables When Turning Left (Code P0581)

I've been fighting an odd issue lately with my cruise control. It seems to work fine until I turn left about 75% of full lock. At that point, the cruise control becomes disabled, and I cannot re-enable it until I restart the vehicle.

Checking the code, I am seeing P0581 - SPEED CONTROL SWITCH1 CIRCUIT HIGH.

This all happened after I upgraded from my stock 32's to 35's and then getting an alignment done. I do recall them very slightly adjusting my steering wheel orientation. I do not recall which direction that it was adjusted, but it was very very minor.

FWIW, the horn function and other steering wheel buttons work at full lock. I have not done anything with the clock spring.

Any ideas as to what this might be and how I might go about fixing it?

The wiring for the CC goes from your CC stalk, through the clock spring, to the PCM. I'm guessing Jeep considers a voltage through switch one (SIG1 on the electrical diagram most likely) to be HIGH if it is above a certain voltage range so it knows you are not trying to accel/decel (whichever signal that circuit drives) and there is actually a problem with the CC. Since it's rotation related in one direction you're really only stuck with a faulty clock spring as the culprit.

How many miles on your JKU?

2008 Jeep electrical diagram, but CC should still apply for your '13, or atleast give you an idea how Jeep does it.

Thanks for the response. My JKU has 21k miles on it.

I'll look into replacing the clock spring.

I replaced the clock spring just now. I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Any other ideas as to what it may be?

I replaced the cruise control switch, and that fixed the issue. The part number for my 2013 was 56046094AE.

So happy I didn't have to go to the dealership.
