I have a Tabor 9k on my YJ... It has been a great little winch and i have not had a single issue with mine. I would get the Tabor, put some synthetic line on it and call it good.

X2 on that, however since you will not be putting yours to hard use I can see getting one of the lower cost ones.

I have a guy that I wheel with and have seen his Smitty Bilt in action. It does the job just fine. Its made in china but oh well, what'ay gonna do.

Good luck

I'll second that and I haven't even owned this winch!!! Warn rocks!

Having said that, I own the Smittybilt XRC-10 w/ synthetic line, and if you're truly looking for a budget value, in a winch that you are going to use infrequently, then you're good to go. It's on my rig right now...

BUT, back to the Warn... They are the standard.

Good luck!

A lot of chit coming...

I ran with the Warn 9.5 on my TJ and loved it, performed flawlessly. Bought my JK used with a Superwinch LP8000 already installed, again performed great, even used it on a construction site to maneuver 6k lb I-beams around (Pic link). Now I have a newly installed Smitty XRC8 that I was lucky enough to have won @ Jeep Beach. I haven't had to use it yet, but I doubt I'll be disappointed.

Obviously I would go with a Warn 9.5 over the other two simply for its speed, weight capacity, and completely enclosed components. However for the cost, the lesser models are no slouches either.

oh yea......you forgot the bacon winch!

I don't have an opinion on the winch's above... but I can say this... you only think it'll be used infrequently now... once it's installed, you'll be much more adventurous than you were before... bc now even though you're out alone, as long as there's a winch point (tree, good rock, etc), you'll be much more inclined to try whatever stupid idea comes to mind...

At least I did... I found myself trying to go all sorts of places I wouldn't even dream of if I didn't have a winch... unless I went with others.

Ended up going with the tabor. Picked it up for 200 and ordered a synthetic line for it. Thanks for all the input guys.
