Stock Radio Issues

Hi

I tried search and didn't find anything similar to the issue I am experiencing, sorry if I missed something.

My stock radio,(NAV/Touch Screen, Infinity) in my 2008 JKU Sahara is acting crazy. It will work sometimes but then after a few minutes it goes dead, no sound, screen goes black. Sometimes sound comes back on but with no screen. Other times screen is displayed with sound but no controls work, sometimes screen displays with no sound.

Do you guys think this could be just a bad head unit? Or is the something else I need to consider? It has been like this for 6 months and other than the lack of radio I haven't seen anything else out of whack happening electronically.

Assuming it is a bad head unit does anyone have a suggestion for an aftermarket replacement that will look somewhat stock?

I don't care about losing NAV but not having any reliable tunes is getting old.

Thanks in advance.

There is a thread on jko in which one guy suggested it was fixed by replacing tipm.
I wonder if you can put a multi meter on the power to the radio while it is on or at least while it should be on.

Disconnect both battery leads. Touch them together to drain all voltage. Wait 30 minutes and then reconnect. Try the radio functions. If this works your good, if not you may have a bad corroded fuse or hard drive. Go to this website where you can purchase a new hard drive with more capacity. Don't be afraid of removal and installation procedure. It's easy and there are step by step instructions. http://mygig-disk.com/index.php I'm assuming you have an RER model. Model number is located at the very bottom right corner. Good Luck.

Funny that the site says Samsung, Toshiba and Fujitsu standard duty drives provide reliable service if not operated below -12° C.
As a Canadian, we are screwed November until April.

Thanks.

Assuming it is a corroded fuse or the hard drive, will a new head unit work?

Yes. You can buy used, reconditioned head units on the internet.

Bought a new Pioneer head unit with Bluetooth that will be installed Friday. It will be nice to have some tunes finally.
