Splicing into Dome Light

Hi,

I'm new to the website and I'v only been the owner of a jk for the past 6 months. I've did exterior mods but haven't done anything electrically.
I recently bought Jeep Logo Door lights and I would like to tap into the Dome light so that when i open the door the light will come on.
Can someone help me as far as finding the wires that i can splice into to access this?

I believe I have ran across several threads regarding something along the same lines. There was an issue with drained batteries though, unless the right measures were taken. Relay's and whatnot. Definitely worth doing a search to make sure you don't end up stranded. I bought some LED's to illuminate the floors and cargo area, but decided against it once I read about the issues.

Current vehicles:
2007 Sahara 2-Door
5.38 gears
Trussed, sleeved, gusseted Dana 44 front w/ factory Rubi locker and RCV shafts
Stock rear Rubi Dana 44 with Auburn Ected locker w/ 35 spline chromoly shafts
6 Speed
2.5 Rock Krawler X Factor System w/ Bilstein 5100 shocks
17X9.5 Spyderlock Beadlocks
37X12.50R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers
F&R AEV Bumpers w/ AEV rear tire carrier
JCR Stage 2 rock rails
Warn Zeon 10-S winch

Look for the yellow wire with the white stripe in the passenger footwell. That is your dome light power wire. When the dome light comes on the door lights will come on. When dome light goes out door lights will go out. As long as they are LED's which they probably are you won't need a relay. Even if they are not LED you probably won't need a relay since they probably don't take up much power.

What "RIGHT MEASURES'? I have been running LED's in the front footwells and the cargo areas for years. I also have dimmable led strips on the center console. Find the information and then you will be credible.

Easy there bulldog, no need to be so harsh. We're all just Jeepers looking to help other Jeepers. Welcoming a new member by barking at another Jeeper...nice. I said that I believed that I had read that somewhere. I wasn't saying absolutely DO NOT do that. I was just implying that doing your due diligence by searching, may turn up more facts.

There was in fact an issue though, when people got a little overboard and started wiring up copious amounts of LED interior lighting. The CANBUS system doesn't like anything out of the ordinary, or it can pull some funky tricks on you. So installing a relay was advised. Someone else mentions it here:

Shiv h3, here is another post with pics that can help guide you in the right direction. He included some pics as well!

Best of luck with your project. Post some pics of your progress throughout the adventure!

I call it like I see it. If you know the definition of internet troll, then you would see that it was spot on. The troll behind the keyboard started out on the defense from the start. When I found the proof of what I had read and presented it, he went on to call me and JK Forum "eddie boys"...whatever that is. The information in my second post is spot on, and can be very useful to someone looking to do what the OP is asking about. I'm not here to have a dXck measuring contest on who knows or posts the most. I was only trying to give the OP some guidance. It's people like that who end up giving forums a bad name, and causing knowledgeable members to move on.

Trolll

I have been here before you and will be here after you. Go hang out at JKF, seems you will fit in nicely there.

You said that it shouldn't be done and I was just relaying that it can be done and that many people on here have done it. You initially offered no proof of what you said then you pull shit from JKF. There are lots of things that I haven't done to my jeep, i.e. tons and coilovers or an LS swap so I don't provide input for those things. But I do read the threads and gain knowledge on those things so if in the future I can dust off the brain and know where to look on JKO for information. But I have done LED's in the interior and I know that they work and how they work.

I hope the OP will search here on JKO and come to his own opinion.

I used to have more of a breakdown on what I had done to my Jeep in my sig. I documented some of it along the way when I had questions or issues, but I don't feel like I need a following for my Jeep builds. I have bigger things in my life that I pay attention to! So here is my breakdown of what I can think of off the top of my head:

'07 Sahara 2-Door
6 Speed
5.38 gears
Trussed, sleeved, gusseted Dana 44 front w/ factory Rubi locker and RCV shafts
Stock rear Rubi Dana 44 with Eaton Ected locker w/ 35 spline chromoly shafts
Front and rear Tatton 1310 driveshafts
2.5 Rock Krawler X Factor System w/ Bilstein 5100 shocks
17X9 Pro Comp 7005 Series
35X12.50R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers
Trek Armor Seat Covers
Front and rear AEV Bumpers w/ AEV rear tire carrier and water tank option
Rigid Dually's on windshield
12" LED lightbar
JCR Stage 2 rock rails
Warn Zeon 10-S winch
IPF H4 Headlight kit

'10 Jeep SRT8
7.0 Arrington 440 stroker - 700hp
True Street Performance built transmission
Wavetrac built rear axle
Best 1/4 mile 11.08 @ 118
DC Customs head and foglight build

I'm sure you will try your best to find something to critique or insult me on with my Jeep builds...but I could honestly care less. I built them to handle what I occasionally throw at them when I feel like getting into the rocks or punishing Vette's.

I'm not sure how you came to the point that I misinformed the OP. Everything I said is and was proven to be true.

Can you point out exactly where I said it shouldn't be done? You can't, because I never said it. Stop trying to put words into my mouth to validate yourself. I simply said that doing a search would be very helpful. I too read the threads to gain knowledge and possibly help someone with questions down the road. That's why I am a member of several Jeep forums. They all host a wealth of information. I couldn't remember exactly where I had read that post about adding LED's to the interior, but I knew I had read something about it. Which is EXACTLY what I said in my first post. I wouldn't tell anyone to do something to their vehicle involving something electrical or mechanical unless I had hands on experience with the item in question.

I have no clue, nor do I care about whatever experience you had that led to your obvious, EXTREME dislike for JKF. It's none of my business. However, I will say this: Aside from the pure bliss of rock crawling and trail riding, the main reason I am still into Jeeping is because of the camaraderie shared between true Jeeper fans. I have been Jeeping for over 14 years, and it is now permanently embedded in my blood. Nothing is going to change that. I hope the same goes for you.
