Tablet

OkI want to install a tablet to use for GPS and to use Torque app. I was thinking a used Nvidia Note 7. Has anyone done this and do you have any recommendations on tablets that work best in sunlight for when the top is off.

Make sure that the tablet can run Torque, first.

Go to Amazon, you can get some refurbished Samsung tablets for a good price. I'd suggest about 7-8", the bigger ones can be a pain to mount.

Post Samsung

I have a Samsung Galaxy S-5 and it runs torque just fine.

I've tried several tablets running torque. The biggest problem I have is the heat. All of these devices use lithium ion batteries, which are heat sensitive. Every device I've tried stops working as soon as the sun comes out on even a slightly warm day.

I've been unable to find a suitable solution so far.

Now back to a 2013 JKU Rubicon with "stuff", planning 37's with minimal lift.

I run a galaxy tab 2 10.1" screen for "My tracks" when I am on the trail. They do make a car charger for it. Way too big for everyday use though.

There is a "Pure Google" version 10.1 and a normal Samsung version 10.1v for the Tab 1 where the "pure" doesn't have the Samsung software TouchWiz, S memo, etc. and is a developer-style version of the Android OS.
I don't think the Tab 2 had that option, unless it is using a custom ROM.

I use the Nexus 7. Has worked quite well for me. I also have a vector e-dock that I'll occasionally mount it to if I have a passenger. Otherwise I prefer it off to the side.

A couple of old photo's.

Where do you purchase the OBD2 unit?

Be careful with offbrand tablets. The cheaper ones do not have blue tooth to save costs. Otherwise, you will need a corded ODBC reader.

I use the Nexus 7. Found on Amazon. Works perfectly with the Waze app. Better than any GPS or phone I have ever used to try to Navigate. No issues with heat. Mounted with ram mounting system on dash just above radio. Will try to attach a photo or two later.

Possibly look into Insane Audio, they have a head unit that runs Android software, I am not sure about running Torque but you can download apps straight to it, has on road and off road GPS as well. Just a suggestion.

Yeah it is the same as torque, but for 1100 bucks i will pass 60 bucks for a used nexus tablet 45 for the mount i want and 7 for the Bluetooth ODB2 module, is good enough for me plus not a target to get stolen when top is off.

This looks awesome... Definitely expensive but doesn't seem too bad considering? I didn't see SAT included in the description but the Q&A mentioned it and leaves me optimistic? Anybody know?
Thanks!

FYI, I bought into Earl a couple of years ago. In my opinion they are never going to make it to market. They have promised way more than they can deliver. I wouldn't hope too much to have one anytime soon.

If I didn't have a 730 nav system I'd look at getting the Insane Audio, nav on and offroad, Torque installed, good integration, seems to have great support and all running Android sounds perfect.

Dealer for: MoTech, Atlas, Dynatrac, Rock Krawler, ORO, Currie, Poison Spyder, Bilstein, Fox, SWAY-A-WAY, Ridid, Adams and Tom Woods DS's. And much more!
