Amplifying Factory Head Unit + Satellite?

Hi Guys,

I'm an old audio guy, but newer technology when it comes to Audio has gotten away from me. Have any of you amplified (through a line-level converter) your factory head unit, to provide sweet sound to your speakers (I would replace the two in the dash and two in rollbar)? If so, did you have any luck, and how does it sound?

Next, can I somehow run XM/Sirius from my factory head unit on an X-Model? Or would I need to upgrade to a Rubicon factory head unit, and then add the Sirius/XM?

I really like the look of the factory radio, because when you ride without a top, park at work, and do not have armed personnel guarding your rig, people can jack your shit. I'm not above dealing with them if I catch them, but if I don't see it happen, I would prefer not to come out to my rig and see a hole in the dash, with wire spaghetti hanging out.

I can hide the amp, disguise killer wiring, but it's the setup that I have questions about.

Let me know if any of you guys have done this before, and if you've had success with it.

Thanks in advance...

RC

First, do you own the premium Infinity stereo?

Second, for integrated Sirius radio just purchase the appropriate head unit on eBay for cheap. Even though my X model came with the Infinity stereo it did not come with the satellite radio option. I browsed the boards and located the correct model number for a head unit with sat radio and searched eBay. I found a unit for $25 and placed the order.

Once I received the satellite ready head unit I went to Car Toys and picked up an after market Terk antenna (w/FAKRA connector) for $30. Went home and did a quick test to ensure that the sat radio worked. Once I verified that both the antenna and head unit worked it was time to decide on a mounting location for the antenna. After studying the vehicle I decided that mounting the antenna on the hood cowl was my best option. I ran the wires, installed the deck and have been enjoying sat radio for over two years.

That's good info. However, my X model, does not have the Infiniti System, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to upgrade the factory unit, to a DIFFERENT factory unit to accomplish what I wish to do, which is:

1) Amplify the existing speakers (or replacements) from a factory head unit.

2) Install satellite radio (Sirius/XM).

What do you think?

Thanks -- RC
