I haven't put a rear camera on my Jeep yet, but I did with my Yellow Jacket and it works great - plus being able to have a passenger enter an address in nav without being stopped is nice.

thanx.

is lock pick and the mygig link the same?? because, for the price, i would rather install another screen....

i did some research and found out that the dealer has to "unlock" the feature on the unit. but im not sure if i can hook any camera and then just have the dealer make the option available, or if i need to purchase another hardware/software...

People here are more than happy to help folks, but don't be so fucking lazy you can't look for answers yourself. Did you even read the website?

i did some research but i still dont understand fully....

i think i know that lockpick will enable all those features... but i found some people mentioning that they took the jeep to the dealer with a set of instructions and the dealer unblocked them for them, "flashing the system" they call it. i even found the instructions one should bring to the dealer in case he doesnt know how:

Quote:
PARK VIEW REAR BACK-UP CAMERA VEHICLE CONFIGURATION

Vehicle VIN must be updated with the sales code of the added accessory in order to enable system functionality. Using the DealerCONNECT website and the StarSCAN diagnostic tool, complete the procedure below:

1. Log on to https://dealerconnect.chrysler.com

2. In the “Vehicle Option” screen under the “Global Claims System” category in the “Service” tab, enter the vehicle VIN and add the sales code XAC (Park View Rear Back-Up Camera) as a “Dealer Installed Option”.

3. Confirm that the new sales code has been successfully added to the VIN. With the StarSCAN diagnostic tool connected to both the internet (via Ethernet port or wireless connection) and the vehicle, follow the steps below:

4. Using the StarSCAN select the VEHICLE PREPARATION and then select RESTORE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION.

5. Follow the step by step instructions on the StarSCAN to complete the Park View Rear Back-Up Camera vehicle configuration.

6. When the Park View Rear Back-Up Camera vehicle configuration is complete, go to the Validation Process to verify that the vehicle has been updated.

VALIDATION PROCESS

From the “Initial Start Up” screen on the StarSCAN follow the steps below:

1. Using the StarSCAN follow the menu to ECU VIEW , select TIPMCGW CENTRAL GATEWAY , MORE OPTIONS , ECU DETAILS and then CONFIG INFO

2. Verify REAR CAMERA PRESET- - - -SET is present.
so thats why im not sure, if i can just ask a dealer to do it, or i need to purchase the lock pick,,,

The dealer probably won't do it for free. The Lockpick gives you many more features which the IMO, the best one, is being able to use the Nav system while driving. It will also allow you to add a front or rear camera as well as turn them on at any time even while driving.

and it also allows you to watch a DVD or video/youtube from your phone while the vehicle is moving...althought now not 5s and up iphones.

I have actually never watched a DVD on it, but I could.

for the price of the new lock pick unit, I would just ditch the stock unit and get and aftermarket one. I have the stock nav unit with lock pick and IMO, it's a POS.

If you can get the dealer to do any of that stuff posted for free, go for it, you'll be out nothing. I would be very surprised if they did anything for free.

edit: so I realized that I said the lockpick would play DVD while driving but have never done it...so that means I really didn't know it would do it. Just tested it out. Yep, works.

Behind the Green Door?

If a company ever releases a double DIN NAV unit that uses Google Maps, I'll ditch the POS MyGig in a second. $150 a year for map updates is just stupid.

thanx, ill check with the dealer to see what they can do... im not sure they will be of any help, as this is an imported jeep (im in Mexico, the jeep was originally sold in the US), but its worth a try... if not, i think i would rather add another screen for the rear camera...
