I bought the Midland 1001z

Cheap, small, has PA.
All I use my CB for is keeping in touch with the small wheeling group I am in. This one does the trick for very little moolah.

Find a small one. Much easier to mount.

Had the 29 classic in my TJ and loved it...Currently have a 148GTL awaiting a home in the JK. Reaaly loved it when I had it in my RV. Sorry its not a small one, probably why I haven't installed it yet....

I got a little $30 midland from Fry's Electronics. Works great, it's really about the antenna, I've got a kickass 4ft. Wilson. The speaker on the Midland unit is surprisingly loud by itself, but it does also have the AUX port in the back for a PA, or with a male-male AUX cable you can hook it into the stero

I understand the Jeep thing

I havethe 29 LTD. It looks like it is 20 years old, it was free. I like the built in SWR ( I am always removing the antenna for parking garages). The size sucks, I used peel and stick velcro strips and mounted it on the top panel above the radio. 18' of cable across the top of the windshield, town the top of the roll bar to the C pillar,, poked through the back door behind the tire.

My next will be a 75, Smaller and easy to store.

I vote galaxy 959 or 979. I've got a cobra 19 in my jeep though due to space and might put my galaxy 979 back in when I get a cage. I honestly don't see much difference in the bigger radios than the small ones, they are all limited to 4watts anyways. Have you ever thought about getting a ham radio license?

i don't have a cb yet but in the market for one, this post helped me a bit, but i would like to add a questoin if i may, someone said to me once something about the boosting the bits or something, basically it is to get a stronger signal, but they also said that cops don't like it when you do that and you can't buy them like that, and that the modification has to be done on the down low, does anyone know anything about this mod?

I don't need anger management classes you need shut the f*#K up classes.

Basically they are talking about either making your radio put out more watts, or add an amplifer which both are illegal. I still don't get why people wanna pump CB's up when you can get a ham radio and have repeaters and operate on FM bands which are much clearer. The reason adding an amp to a cb is illegal is because they are all only allowed a 4watt maximum output. I think this is so the FCC doesn't require a permit to use them cause people who amp them up often cause interfernce with other radio systems.

good to know thanks cahmoney, i couldn't quite figure out why he said that, but from my little expierence with cbs i don't really think it will be worth it for what i plan on using mine for, and it seems an antenna is probably more important

anytime. if you end up with any questions during the install just PM me I got a fleet of Peterbilts and my drivers get cranky when their cb's don't work so I've learned to fix a lota diff issues.

If you haven't looked at mounts yet I would suggest the stainless ones like quadratec sells that bolt to the spare tire carrier bolts on the tailgate. Teraflex makes one too I believe.
