Single DIN Aftermarket Decks

I'm assuming there's people that have done this...

Looking at the size of the stock deck, that one could yank that, and replace it with a single DIN deck, and put a blank cover in for the other DIN... I'm thinking that it would be a great spot to mount some future switches...

Yeah? No? Anyone done this (or even just with the blank spot filled in)?

Where would one find out more about this? My (very limited) exp is that aftermarket decks will center in where the old deck was removed.

I've seen that this was tossed out there... Has anyone used it? And have you seen any pictures?

I saw a pic of one on here a while back that had the single din and a storage cubby beneath it. I liked that one, would be good for cell phones, etc.

I had looked on their site, but wasn't able to find anything...

EDIT: I only see a kit that looks like it has the side pieces (I assume a single DIN deck is not quite as wide). I'm not seeing the cubby hole, or blank space...

You can use a single DIN unit and use the space underneath for switches. You would have to think about how you create that blank panel. The single DIN dash kit will come with a 'cubby' that you can use to store keys or something. I used the other DIN to install a Cobra 18 CB.

I am using a single DIN Kenwood with a removable face that allows me to secure it in my Tuffy console. I like the storage under the radio, perfect for a can of Copenhagen, my phone or whatever.

I did not perform a write-up since you just use the double DIN write-ups. Beyond that the only caveat is to mount the radio directly to the dash trim (Kenwood calls it rear mounting???). The only thing that I have done since this picture is bend some sheet metal that I painted with a rattle can for a CB mic mount.
