How did you swap your factory fogs?

My bumper can hold factory fogs or aftermarket.
The plan is to replace my factory fogs with a set of piaa's, and don't want any computer problems. I want to use the factory switch on the stalk.
Did you just cut the stock wire before it breaks of to the old lights and toss the rest? I'm planning to just use the old wire to pull the relay. I will run the power wires directly to the battery.
This will work just fine, correct? No computer problems with voltage or what not?

I have searched out numerous threads and just want a definitive answer.
The new lights are sitting here and will get installed this week.

Right after you cut those wires, put them in a box and send them to me.
(I'll take care of the shipping)

You'll probably need heavier wires and relay. (?!) Not sure though.
Aren't the factory fogs only like 35w?

I did exactly what you said, I just cut the wires at the plugs and wired my Hella 500ff to the other ends and they work just fine. Now remember these lights are just 55watts so if youre going more I would run them on a different circut and relay.

Yes the factory fogs are 35w so HIDs would work but 55w lights may cause problems later on.

I was going to use the wire kit that came with the Piaa lights. It has the fuse and relay.
I just wanted to use the factory wire to pull the relay only. (retaining stock switch) I will run the power from the battery.

I was just nervous about the whole canbus thing.

Did you really want the wires and plugs?? (zoso green)

old light

Do you still have the old lights? I would be interested in them. I would also power a relay with the old wire and run some heavy wire to the new lights from that relay, this way in the future your ready to go for whatever mods you may make. Putting in a relay is real easy, especially in your case, the wires are already in the engine compartment.
