rigid back up light won't work

searched but could not find answers.

i just want rigid lights in rear bumper to turn on when in reverse. i wired in a relay and i think everything is wired correct.

the problem is i can not get light to turn on with the jumper wire to the relay. when i tap the number 86 from relay to direct power relay clicks and lights turn on but i can't get them to work when taping into harness above driver rear tire. i have used the white with green strip and white with grey strip….they seem to switch in harness to tail light reverse wire.

this is a 2014 jku…

am i using the wrong relay or tapping into the wrong wires? i can't get my test light to work on any wires in the harness. seems like there is power to any of the wires?

Are they LEDs? Shouldn't need a relay for LEDs. They only way to test the reverse wires is to have the Jeep in reverse. You will need a helper for that.

That's what I did. I can't remember which white but I believe it was the outside one on the connector. I remember checking one and it didn't work so I switched it. It's raining now but if you need me to pull the tail light and take a pic I would be more than happy too. Once the rain stops.

Awesome. Mine have been working that way for a year so I think you're good.

Well if the relay was wired correctly it should have worked. On a SPST relay, pins 30 and 87 are the feed to the accessory. Bring power in to the relay through pin 30 and when the relayed is triggered, it internally connects pin 30 to pin 87 thus allowing the power to come out pin 87 and turn on the accessory.

Pins 85 and 86 are the trigger circuit. When you run power through those pins it makes the pin 30 to 87 connection. So pin 86 goes to ground and pin 85 could be fed from the reverse light positive wire.
