dead battery paulie...

if its the OEM battery it could be broken plates. the cold also wreaks havoc on cheap batteries. get a new one

If the lights dim when you turn the key it probably is the battery. Make sure you remove the clamps and clean the battery posts and clamps with one of those wire brush thingies first. Thought I had a dead battery once but after I cleaned everything off it started.

after a few wheeling trips, apparently the conductor plates in the OEM batteries have a tendency to break. while the battery itself looks good, there is no space for conduction. the optima, and others, are gel cell so there is no concern for the plates breaking.

The stock battery is definitely grade A junk.

A yellow top is a big improvement. 2 yellow tops is hero territory.

Hmm, I used the winch too..

About two weeks ago I used my winch to pull an suv w/a dead battery while it was in park. Long story short.. My battery light came on and stayed on till I cleared the code.
Ever since, my battery ran down quicker than ever!

After the battery light came on:
(1)I couldn't run the stereo as long w/the engine off, w/out the battery dieing.

(2)The battery died while I installed my new ORH soft top. Note:This took a bit of time, but the only thing that would have drained the battery would have been the dome lights.

(3)And the battery was dead the other morning after a night of Temps in the high 30's.

So, I went to Discount Auto (Jeep started just fine) and bought a new Optima (group 34) and was going to bring it home to swap out the old battery. Yeah Right...the jeep wouldnt start! Had to do the swap in the parking lot of the auto parts store!

I haven't done any "off roading" whatsoever....yet, I do live off a dirt(sand) road that's really bumpy, so maybe this attributed to some of my battery issues.?? I dunno..

As far as the OP.. Everything in my jeep worked as usual and the solenoid "clicked" when I turned the key. Except my jeep just wouldn't start.

Mine died at 40,000 miles and I have replaced it with this diehard too. winch seems to actually run faster. the price was the same as the yellow top at $205.00 but sears was open and nobody here had a yellow top. It comes with a full replacement warranty for 8 years and after that I think a prorated warranty. cant remember that part for sure. Always been a fan of diehard though

I have a jeep and it goes over shit.

I saw the yellow top on line for $209. I cant remember where. could have been advance or autozone or it might have been 4 wheel parts. I know it was a store that was within driving distance but whoever it was, they were not open that day. must have been 4 wheel parts. They were having a big sale in december. On my other post here i said the die hard made it run faster, I was talking about the winch. From what I understand, the yellow top is supposed to be better than the red top. Also, I think when I was looking up the batterries, the online vehicle selection would only recommend the red top for the jk. I just priced a yellow top in the same cca as the red top they recommended.

I have a jeep and it goes over shit.

Red Top's are mainly for cranking the engine. Whereas Yellow Top's are for cranking the engine, as well as for people who are running extras such as, a winch, lights, air systems, welders, stereos etc etc...

And YES, it's okay to run a yellow top on your jeep, So long as you get the right series (to ensure a proper fit). I have the "Group-34", (750 CCA) which is the one recommended for my year model.
