After market light relays?

Hi Guys!

I was given a pair of PIAA lights, just the lights not relay or switches. I Have the daystar switch panel and switch for these lights, but don't have a relay, what type of relay would I need? The lamps have 55W bulbs in both, what would be the best way to wire hem up so they can be on regardless of the ho-beams yet turn off when the ignition is shut off?

amps=watts divided by volts. So 55w/12volts= 5 amps. Each light draws 5 amps for a total of 10 amps. A relay rated for 10 amps or better should do. Wire the relay 'hot' wire to a non switched circuit. I wire all my relays to the battery directly with an inline fuse. Then you can operate your lights independently of the stock lights.

Question to go along with the relays. I am putting (3) IPF 55 wt lghts on my new roof rack. What gage wire should I use?

Depends on the length of the run. For example, 18 gauge is okay for 20 amps at 5', but for 20 amps at 20' you need 12 gauge.

Thanks for the help. I got the MBRP roof rack for Christmas and I plan on istalling it tomorrow.
