Grand Cherokee Alternator Retro-fit?

I see Jeep offers a 220A alternator on the 3.6L Grand Cherokee. Has anyone ever tried retro-fitting it onto a JK?

I wouldn't mind messing with it, but the $500 price is a bit steep for experimentation.
