Gutting Alpine Pathetic Audio System

I want to completely REMOVE the "Alpine" AMP & Speakers on my JKU, replacing EVERYTHING. I know its behind the glove box, anyone know how/ where the factory amp is wired in? Will removing this overpriced paper weight cause any issues? Thanks.

I wouldn't remove anything. If you remove it all you'll have to completely rewire so why not just rewire and leave it all in there in case you ever sell or change your mind.

Thanks, but I need/want to remove the unit as I have plans for the space it currently occupies. I have to rewire all of the replacement speakers and such anyway as the factory wire doesn't make the cut. My concern is whether or not it will cause any issues or errors.

Wired in? The factory amp should be under the steering column and in fairness I wouldn't bother removing it at all. When you replace the head unit, speakers, and run new wire you can just leave the connections at the amp and what was at the head unit intact. Easy peasy.

Secondly, if you have an AEV ProCal, you'll want to uninstall it before you remove your head unit, as the ProCal uses one of the nodes in the radio to authenticate. Should you ever want to remove it later on, you won't be able. Should be able to reinstall afterwards.

Thanks, I am replacing the fronts with Alpine SPR-60C's, the rears with Alpine SPR-60's and the sub with an Alpine SWR-8D4 all powered by the Alpine PDX-V9. Thus I don't want/need the other crap and I wasn't sure the CAN BUS Gremlins wouldn't pop up. G2G

I have done most of what you are talking about. There is a DTC set (no light) because the CAN bus is trying to talk to it. Otherwise I don't think it is an issue. I have a 2008 btw.

Let us know how that sbr-s8 sub works out for you, i am getting ready to pull the trigger on one and mount it to my tailgate.

Yours come in? My PDX didn't arrive so I am still on hold until tomorrow SUPPOSEDLY. Not tearing things apart until I have the amp.

Well, I got everything completely torn out and install complete. Type R's sound amazing and I'm not pushing um til they've broken in. Everything looks OE. The 8" is impressive, I ran10" w7's for years and this type R is just as good. I like clarity and this whole setup is the best I've had. Better than the Boston's, JL's, Polk's, Kicker's, Pioneer's, Kenwood's or Eclipse I've had. Clean, crisp & plenty of power in reserve if I wanna go back to my teenaged Ass Hole years.

Damn you waited awhile... Is a very impressive sub indeed. I mounted mine in the factory spot with a 1" spacer. How did you mount yours?

I mounted mine to the tailgate. I built a storage unit on the floor and the sub actually keeps the lid from opening when the tailgate is shut. I'll post a pic if it get a chance.
