I don't have much use for Canadian maps, but I'm interested in what you've done. I've considered extracting the hard drive and side loading it to see if the files could be swapped out.

Well that sucks...I also have a 430, didn't want to go through the hassle of using it in my 2011.

Will the mod still retain all other functions and street maps?

I agree with Matti here. The 730 was a real pain. The hard drive and files were all some obscure goofy format, and everything was locked down and protected and checksumed. You could not edit or change anything or it would just not work anymore or completely ignore your changes.

I'll run out and take some pics today.

Well, guess I need to explore what it takes to use the 430, I want to keep all the conductivity features intact.

Yes it should have no effect (other than hard drive space taken up)

its done with USB yes,

what i'm doing is fooling the 430N into thinking the TOPO maps are a valid map update from Chrysler.

If the tests work i will release full instructions to the masses.

Oh and the TopoMaps im using are Garmins newest(the same or newer than your CD, acutally mine is multiple DVD's)

OK, I gave it a try.

I got a message that:
"map update failed" retry or contact your dealer....

and then PDR (I think) update succeed.

I don't think it liked the map file, failed right away, like it didn't even try.

Looks like 44.* does not like the map files.

We can try a downgrade to 33.* and see it it will load the maps. Let me do some testing with your software version.

Its strange that it let the PDR update tho.......

yup 44.* don't like it

if you have a blank DVD you can burn a "update" DVD that will downgrade you

1. The raw files are here -----> http://www.mydrive.ch

username: [email protected]
password: gasolio

Go to the Folder Software-Update RER-REW-REP there you find RHB-RBZ-RB2-33-01-23.iso

Once the disc is burned.......

Do not attempt to install WITHOUT THE MOTOR RUNNING! If the MyGig looses power at anytime during the install you can forget about the MyGig ever working again!

It is VERY IMPORTANT to read the following instructions before you attempt to install. Failure to read could turn your pretty MyGig into a expensive brick mounted in your dash!

http://mofv.com/MyGIG/SoftwareInstall.htm

What ever you do do NOT remove the disc till the MyGig asks you to install the software a second time! This is the equivalent of the "Your installation is complete" window. Then you simply click "NO" then you can eject the disc.

We could also try to load it without the CN (City Navigation) and make it Topo Only just to see if that works.... let me know.

Downgraded to 33.XX without issue

Map update is the same:

"the map update was not installed successfully...." Retry or contact your dealer. or somesuch...

Same as before, it reads the USB for the files and pretty quickly says if failed, then it does the PND with reports "successful <OK>"

Can you disconnect they battery and wait a few min and try the map update again?

If not let me do some more tinkering.

subscribed.

I bricked my first 430N from my 2014 when trying to update maps last November.

I have a new 430N with newer maps, but still not the 2014.40s which I have downloaded.

My understanding is the newer 2013/2014s may not care which GPS version you downgrade to... and that their hard drives are near impossible to crack their unlock password.

My next approach is to unlock the hard drive and manually copy the files I need.

How? If your 430N has a Toshiba drive ( I think it was Toshiba) then they cannot be easily unlocked without paying a couple grand.

My approach is thus:
1. Find an easily unlockable hard drive -Done!
2. Locate hard drive unlock tools - Done!
3. Install easy-unlock hard drive into 430N and let the system apply the standard hard drive lock password.
4. Pull easy hard drive and use unlock tools to find password.
5. Use unlock tools and password to unlock original hard drive
6. copy new maps, icons, topo, etc.

I've been researching this exhaustively since I got my 2014

I can, maybe...

I have the worlds most complicated dual battery set-up. Depending on if I can reach both to disconnect without removing the fender/fusebox/air filter..........

For $38 you can buy the disk image and apply it to a new (not locked) hard drive.

*disclaimer- I have no idea if this really works or is a scam. Not affiliated in any way.
