wanting to add OEM infinity amp.

I have an '09 Unlimited "X" without the upgraded infinity system. What's involved in adding the OEM infinity amp.? Will the OEM amp. just plug into the head unit and wire harness? I have read that the Nitro amp. is a better option as the wrangler OEM amp. has some sort of built in power restriction to the soundbar ?!

Do you have any pics of your rear video monitors?

Here is a plug-n-play Mopar Kicker amp that would work:

I would respectfully disagree. I heard an Unlimited with a stock amp and a Nitro amp back to back and the difference isn't a "well, I *think* I hear something different" it was a definite difference. When I say back to back I mean listen to a song on the Ipod, unplug the stock amp (without removing it) plug in the Nitro amp lying on the floor of the Jeep, and turn it back on. The difference is real...sorry, unless you've heard it yourself you can't rely on what other say might or might not happen.

It would be easy to distinguish between the two. The Nitro amp hits much harder and makes more rattle inside the Jeep. Like I said, it's not like you think it's louder. Stuff rattles and mirrors shake with the Nitro amp that you don't hear/see with the stock amp.

The amps are not the same. If they were there would be one part number for the Wrangler and Nitro. Notice there is one part number for HUs that span across multiple product lines? Not so for the amps.

Ok, simple question for you: have you ever heard the Nitro amp back to back with the Wrangler amp?

It was a 2009 Nitro amp, 2009 JK...I'll leave it at that and just agree to disagree with you. I feel silly arguing with someone who hasn't even heard it and is basing everything on theory or what someone else told them.

This is good stuff. Wish I had a Nitro amp to try.
Wish I had an infinity amp. My non-infinity system sounds like crap !!

Hey Waterboy.
Get a Nitro amp. and bring it home. We can conduct our own independent test in your 2010. You do the amp. switch and I will listen without knowing which amp. is plugged up...

LOL...I feel ya bro. My friend with the Unlimited is constantly complaining about his system and is upgrading to a PDX-5 and some different subs. I always tell him to spend a week in my Jeep and see what he thinks about his system then.

Nice write up Rednroll, I know my 08 jk sounded really good initially and I had the cracking when I would play songs from my HD. They came out with a TSB that flashed the amp or HU but after that it sounded like CR&#. I wish I could set it back to the original setting. I would rather deal with the cracking sound. It only happened on a few songs anyway.

Rednroll,

Nice write up! I know I got tired of trying to explain clipping, distortion and compression and how that affected Jeep's decision to basically turn the gains down on the amp via software settings. I would rather have the gains turned down and be able to crank the volume up to 30+ with minimal distortion rather then have the gains maxed out and only be able to hit the low to mid 20s.

Thanks for taking the time to get that info on the amp along with the how's and why's. I'm going to add your post to my stereo file.

Great write up Red...thanks for the info and checking into it. Actually the amp I had was out of a 2009 Liberty (model numbers for the Liberty and Nitro are the same), but I guess that it might have been an early model year build if Liberty was one of the first 2009's built. I ended up selling the amp when I realized how much work was involved installing it in my base X so I can't check the date.
