Rant On...

I don't think I've ever started a thread in Dirty Laundry ...but this kinda pissed me off. I got an issue of Off Road Adventures magazine in the mail, and there's a feature article about MOPAR Underground Jeeps out in Moab. The Jeep line up is the new Renegade, the JK8, Blue Crush, HEMI Renegade, and Pork Chop.

The Renergade is set up from the factory with Dynatrac ProRock 44s and 60s ...475hp ...6.4 litre.

WTF!?!?

Does f'n MOPAR really think folks wouldn't buy these??

Short rant off ...

They know there'd be no market for those. They'd likely price it at $70k+.

I dunno but I kinda like the wheels on pork chop, as well as the front bumper. Definitely a sand vehicle for sure. They were all pretty cool in there own ways.

The Renegade is my favorite of the lot. Good news is that it seems to be built with a mix of AEV and MOPAR parts. Now if I could only win that lottery, I would turn my JK into that!

I read an article about AEV being contracted just recently to build two hemi powered JK's for the CEO of DC for "corporate evaluation". Then they go and build these rigs in house. I know for one if they built a V8 powered Wrangler I'd be inclined to buy one. The Rubicon package is nice. But they are not necessary from what I've seen, the core elements of that package always get ripped out and replaced with aftermarket anyways. The V8 swap is the one part of the puzzle that most people don't want to do right away or ever. If they offered a Rubicon with factory upgraded axles and a V8 for a reasonable price that would be a hotcake item. I think most would agree.

I still wouldn't trade my junk for it..... too much money and time invested already to start over. I would lose too damn much money.

Depending on pricepoints, I would at least take one out for a test drive.

Thats what I have been saying !!!! There is a very small market for these type of rigs. They are FUCKING EXPENSIVE !!! Hell a HEMI swap is expensive......

Don't be mad at Jeep for at least trying to do "WHAT IF's" I love reading about what they have done.

The Project is moving forward.

A hemi "swap" is a lot less expensive when Jeep makes it that way from the factory.

I've said it before....I just wish they would offer a "kit Jeep". I know some of the reasons for not offering a hemi/diesel have to do with emissions and lawyers and such so that could be the way around it.

All I really want is the body, frame, interior and wiring. I'll provide all the drivetrain and suspension.

One of the biggest reasons is C.A.F.E. (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. They are the reason why crap like the Compass and Patriot exist and why the tiny new Fiat something or another based "Jeep" will come out soon. Within a given manufacturers vehicle line up, a certain level of average fuel economy is required by the federal government.

That, and the fact that a Wrangler is a fairly niche market vehicle as it is, a V-8 powered gas guzzler taxed Wrangler would be an even smaller niche.

That all being said, if they suddenly announced that the 2012's were getting a 6.4L V-8 option, I'd be headed to the dealership now (and my 2011 is less than 2 months old!!!) (assuming they don't make it a weird on road oriented "sporty" version like the SRT-8 concept they released several years ago, YUCK!!!)

Lack of power is why my dad is now DDing a Range. There are people out there who would pay a premium for power...

The Gov will never let them build what we want. Gotta love the after market, and our vendors. No excuse (except $$$ ) for not finding what you want. And if you cant find it, some one can make it. Heard QTec made a bundle last quarter. The more they change things (factory) the longer it takes the after market to catch up. From 07 to 10, things remained the same, lot of after market out there. If 11, and 12 turn out to be a limmited run will the after market make parts. I say leave them alone, tweek them yourself.
