doors off drive today was truly unpleasant

I normally love to run doorless with the center section of the ORH top down for a bikini but today's 30 mile highway run sucked ass - this whole time of year sucks.

yeah it was 96 degrees, but that had nothing to do with it.

It's the god damned west texas WIND!

30MPH sustained cross wind with gusts to 45+

before you call me a whiner - imagine front pax side floormat blowing out- hooked and all, sunglasses getting torn off your face, heavy mastercraft harnesses blowing up from the pax seat and pounding your shoulder- yes they were fastened, it just lifted and buffeted the buckles and all, rear seats folded and the rear belts unrolled all the way out blowing around smacking everything - including the outside of the jeep - catching a gust and it actually makes your windward side ear pop and forget about a hat.

sucks cuz we'll have weeks with no rain, weather in the 80s-100s during the day, low 70s at night, SHOULD be a great time to forget about the doors.

when I lived in Fl, 45MPH winds were a tropical storm, out here its a breezy thursday. 75MPH winds were hurricanes, here its just a good thunderstorm

pisses me off because trips I should love, are more like I endure them.

this is why I dont ride the motorcycles as much as I'd like to, not only do you get knocked around, but big trucks randomly hopping 3 feet over next to you is a bit unnerving.

I still love Texas, just the damn wind gets old - no wind would suck with the heat, but damn does it have to be 30+ MPH all the time?

ok venting over.

oh yeah, and in case you think I'm exaggerating - notice this isnt out of the ordinary enough to call for a wind advisory or anything, the alert is extreme wildfire danger - another product of the wind

99 deg + high winds here......enough to about blow you out the other side of the Jeep. I have to secure everything- CD case, cell phone, pass floor liner, groceries, etc.

But IDK, Larry- I wouldn't trade an open cabbed ball buffering sunshiny, loud country music jammin' bbq & nature smellin' cruise down a TRUE TEXAS highway....for anything.

It's just plain too hot for me. I get my topless time in when the weather is nice. After mine is up, people put theirs down and sweat their balls off. I don't get it! I rather a hoodie in the morning and it's nice the rest of the day. I'm not hard core enough for the heat, I can get plenty hot driving my non-a/c 'Cuda if I feel adventurous.

The reason I usually leave the doors on is because of the cross wind. Doesn't matter what time of the year...if it's not coming from the South, it's coming from the North.

And this comin' from the Vegas boy...

I feel ya, though. I've got my bikini top on at the moment, but doors are on. Only because I pick my son up from daycare, though. If not for that, they'd be off. I still drive with the windows down and the A/C off. Guess I sort of got used to the heat driving a '91 CRX with no a/c for 8 years in the Texas heat. Funny, though, because I wore myself out yesterday when I got home by spending an hour outside washing the Jeep.

But I agree, Venom. The wind we've had lately here in NTX is a bitch!

I hear ya. Im already back in top up mode. The combination of the wind and the heat just take the joy out of it for me. Im not going to drive around uncomfortable and frustrated just to have the top off.

It sucks cause i really enjoy cruisin with the top off and have toughed it out in my last few jeeps. I can deal with the heat, but throw the wind in like we've had and its too much.

I almost lost my prescription glasses the other day from driving with my windows down. Wind came in from the passenger side and ripped them from my face, and that never happens.

hell yea!

If I didn't have the front hard-top panels, it would be another story. No way I could take too much of that full sun from above......but even sweating a little today (bank said 101), I still enjoyed tooling around town more than I would have in my a/c havin' truck.

Yep, my 'Cuda was my only car for two years in Vegas with the black vinyl interior. A 50mph wind (windows down) in 115* desert heat is nothing like 95* heat with humidity. It's like a damn hair dryer blowing in your face, offers zero cooling!

did the too hot for no ac drive to Venom's last week, no top no doors, 30 mph wind, 107 degrees in the shade!... it sucked.

im stubborn though, i didnt buy a jeep to have the top on all the time so i'll just toss the doors back on, i have the spiderweb shade jkini which doesnt look like it would make a difference but it really does. only time my top goes back on is if its going to rain and even then sometimes i gamble since weather channel lies to me often!

went to jack in the box on the way home from work today and the lady at the drive up window asked me where my doors were, i looked at her like i was worried and said " theres supposed to be door on these?" she looked confused lol

My father used to talk about those winds... He used to drive one of those rigs cross country. He said the worst part was after 4- 5 hours of driving in the wind he would get so used to having the wheel cranked to one side that when you went under a bridge and that wind stopped for a sec, you'd almost make a left/right turn.

he hated driving in it

I hate the wind... HATE IT! It just sucks the moisture and life right out of you.

Isn't it funny how the wind is ALWAYS perpendicular to whichever direction you're driving. It just never seems like it's going in the same direction which would help in gas mileage. Maybe I just don't notice when the wind is being friendly and actually pushing me along instead of being angry and fighting my general progress.

the wind along the I-40 corridor back in April was brutal. i don't see how anybody learns to live with it. i stopped to fill up in Ok. just before the Tx. border and the jeep felt like it was hovering. only got 135 miles out of that tank of gas.
