Goodyear sucks

Well, I've just about given up hope of GY pulling their heads outta their asses now.

After I saw the banner at the bottom of the page for an $80 rebate on GY tires, I clicked it and realized that it was good for $160 rebate on 4 MT/R Kevlars if purchased with the GY credit card ($80 otherwise). So, I called their number 800-321-2136 and explained to the minion who answered that I saw their rebate on their site and was wanting to get the MT/R, but the larger sizes were all backordered. He asked what sizes I was looking for so he could "look up the latest info on them". I told him either 38 or 40 would suffice. Then, he told me he needed the full size to look them up. I almost told him he was a moron because they only made the 38 and 40 in one width each and both for a 17" wheel, but I figured that might be going too far.

Seriously, how can we, the end user, know more about the product than their own people?

Oh, yeah, he did say that he didn't show anything for the next 6 weeks. He said the dealers needed to put in orders for them to show them demand before they'd start making them again.

So, tell me... just how is a dealer gonna get orders for a tire that's not even available for the next 6 weeks?

I think we need to give up on GY, but I'm sad because I love my MT/R Kevlars.

Maybe I just won't go bigger yet.

This most likely isnt just Goodyear... this is alot of tire companies... i am hearing that three of the largest tire manufacturing plants in Japan were wiped out, thus stopping production at thos plants. We have been seeing the end result of teh MTR kevlar... but this is probably not just a goodyear thing. You will notice that tire prices have risen as teh dealers are now paying more to get the hard to get stock available.

MTR's are made in the USA not in one of the plants in Japan. Actually most of the goodyears are made in the USA.

Way to rub it in there, Jason. Thanks for that. hehehe....

Honestly, you have idiots at the store level, too. When you have a situation like this, the minions at the stores need to learn (much like the guy on the phone) how to work the computer system. Can't put orders in because there is no stock? Here's the way to get noticed: plug in a "lost sale" for the tires. Lost sales go into the same reports all the district managers, regional managers, and everyone above them see.

If more people knew how to do this, things would be a bit easier. Unfortunately, to save money, a lot of stores hire the guy they can pay the lowest to take orders and sell what they've got. That's why it is so rare to find "that guy" who will go above and beyond anymore.

Dirty's Minions don't officially exist. They are a myth, a bedtime story, a whispered rumor. They are ghosts.

I also ordered mine from RCO. Only took a week or two. I don't really remember. But it was fast for Jeep parts!

Of course I'm sure I just got lucky but Marcus is AWESOME!

Not sure where the MTR's are made.... but "actually most goodyears are made in the USA"...

really - Goodyear is based in USA in Akron -

Goodyear has 10 tire plants in the US...

However Goodyear is also known as :

- European Union Tire - 14 Plants
- Latin American Tire manufacturing Facilities - 6 plants
- Asian Pacific Tire Manufacturing - 10 plants

So although Goodyear is a US based company and has ten plants, they have 30 plants elsewhere in the world.... so i truly doubt that a fourth of their total plants in the US produce most of there tires.....

I stand corrected. I was going of of information from our goodyear rep.

Both sets of my MTR/k's are stamped made in the USA though.

I believe they are 37's. Last I heard, Marcus had 1 more set of 5 in stock. Im pretty sure the 38's and 40's are going to be at least a month out as they are pumping out 37's atm.

I would definately suggest calling Marcus and getting your name on a set.

Yes I agree, Goodyear is killing us all! Ha ha!

I'm still waiting on a bunch of back ordered 35s to come in from them.

Cant believe how bad our MTR Kevlar side walls sliced up on our first wheeling trip with them. Wish I knew how easily they cut before we bought them..... should have stuck with our NIttos....

5 42" Kevlars = $2k+ = Mistake

Tire Rack has them in stock. I would check with vendors here first, might get a better deal. And It took about 2 months but I got my 80$ rebate.

I was on 35s for a year. Now 37s for 4 months. My only issue or complaint is they chunk a little on the side lugs. Never had any slices.

I should have a couple more sets of 37s by the end of the week, or the next couple of weeks. $349 per tire delivered on the 37s.

I back ordered a set of 40s for the OP.

Word from Goodyear today:

Quote:
From: [email protected] on 05/17/2011 02:29 PM

Sent by: Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Consumer Relations 728 1144 East
Market Street Akron, OH 44316 Voice #: 800.321.2136 Fax #:
330.796.6829

I show an "estimated" production date for the 38X14.50R17LT and the
40X13.50R17LT sizes of 8/8/11. Goodyear does not have the ability to
"promise" the delivery date of any tire to a consumer. The 08/08/11 date
provided is our current best estimate of when this tire will be produced in
our factory. There are literally hundreds of other tires produced in that
same factory, and should consumer demand dictate changes to the production
schedule, then the tires may not be made the week of 08/08/11. The key
point is that this is our best estimate, and not a promise; this date is
subject to change without notice.

Waited for weeks on my 35" GY Kevlars and now wish I hadn't. Have had them balanced 3 times in about 25,000 miles and they still aren't right. Best of luck with larger sizes. The original BFGs on my Rubi never needed rebalancing in over 50K.

Next time...Nittos. I understand they're made in Georgia, USA.

For what it's worth, and I'm not ragging on the MTR/Ks, but I had tons of weight on my 35/15 setup.

My 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers on Raceline beadlocks have zero weight on them and roll smooth as glass.

According to TireRack the entire MTR/K line is made in the USA. Other tires from GoodYear are noted as being produced elsewhere....

I know my old MTRs were.....they have "Made in the USA" on them.

That's always been my biggest beef with MTR's is the wobble. 10-12 oz on some.
