Have to buy the pro-cal. Dealer doesn't do Speedo re-cal

I called the dealer to find out if they do speedo re-cals after regearing and tires.
Nope. WTF?
I just wanted to see if it would cost less than buying an AEV Pro-Cal unit.
I guess once I buy it, I can offer a new "service" to local JKOwners. Charge $10 a pop to re-cal?

No you can't, it's VIN locked

My dealer wanted $90 to do the recal. They can't do anything beyond the largest size available stock 32.06 (which mine was) so I opted to wait and get the procal later.

Get the Procal - if you have an Auto, maybe look at one of the other options out there that will allow you to change shift points.

You can find them used many times - but be careful, if they weren't reset properly thay can't be used (ask me how I know this) - ultimately mine was reset, but it took FOREVER...

Check with Anthony at WSOffroad... I know he sells them.

The Pro-Cal is VIN locked?

I can check with ECGS and see if they do re-cal when they do the gears.

yup procals vin locked same with programeres superchips, hypertech ect your jeep has to be set back to stock before you sell it...i would also set it back to stock every time you go into the dealer...because when they plug in they will see its been programed....and depending on why you brought it in they can refuse to work on it or flag your warranty...just depends on the dealer if there dicks

Ah ha. Might also want to set it back before inspection since they use the OBDII port for inspection in NC. No tail pipe sampling.

So Pro-Cal it is.

The procal does not show as having been re-programmed - I have read that straight from AEV somewhere as I was concerned on that front as well. Other programmers - yes...

See Jordan's response here - and Jordan is the main tech guy at AEV (again ask me how I know this)...

Yeah, dealers suck. And the AEV procal is VIN specific.

So i guess that would be the first time a company has lied to sell a product they can see it...sometimes they may overlook it or not be able to tell what was done but they do see it...

This brings up a situation I've been pondering.... When you put on larger tires it messes with the odometer reading. So you have to legally change, calibrate, it so the mileage is correct. If you don't they can void your warranty in the aspect of mileage because you/they cannot prove how many miles are actually on the vehicle. True?

I have a superchips programmer that I got just to calibrate the speedometer/odometer. I have not changed the program any, so I feel totally justified in claiming my engine/tranny warranty is still intact. It's called pluasible deniablity. (If you can't say the program has not been changed then a very technical argument could ensue. And most of the time the ignorant dealer service people will win just because.) If/when I take it back in do I reset everything back to factory? or, leave the calibration in place.

In the words of Tommy Lee Jones in No Country for Old Men "It's a question".

I know every take there is about dealers and warranty issues, not asking that. But, this situation does appear to be a catch 22. The actual question may be, is a programmer a dealer accepted way to calibrate? To be answered by your friendly local neighborhood dealer.

Hum...
I used to reset the settings everytime before I went to the dealer/garage.
I forgot once.
My dealer did a TSB update and the tech (I always go see the same guy) said I will do the update but I cannot re-do your programming because my machine supports up to 35" maximum...
I guess he must have "read" the programming somewhere...

So he did the update and then I plugged in my ProCal and everything was fine...

Oh I agree 100% - I was just pointing to a thread from them. Trust me, it took so dang long to get mine back that I wouldn't put too much faith in that thread either - but I didn't want to take this down the hole for my issue I had.

Don't put all of us dealers in the same catagory!
I do more than my share of helping fellow Jeepers as well as spending my time and $$ to take newbies out to show them what can be done as well as how.
The Chrysler program only allows the max tire size of 32, gears at 4.10 and TPMS around 28psi.
I did a thorough search and made plenty of calls to Tech Services to see what could be done.
I ended up with the Pro-Cal.
Will be going with the Diablo possibly in the future.
