Although this is completely unrelated, I figured I'd post it here...
There's an online forum out there called Jerry's Koala Orgy. Many people also refer to the site as JKO for short. Being an advocate of organized marsupial sex-parties, I enthusiastically accepted a moderating position on the forum when it was offered to me some years ago. Over the years JKO has relied upon the integrity of it's forum members as well as it's vendors that manufacture and sell all sorts of cool koala orgy related merchandise. Well... Jerry is a nice guy and so he never really laid out many specific rules for the forum participants to adhere to. Rather, he trusted the vendors to not advertise excessively.
For the most part there wasn't too much of an issue with the majority of vendors respecting one another as they were all there for the same reason... to sell products and services while maintaining regard for one another. But one vendor in particular by the name of More Ass Four-Bi-Four ( specializing in Bisexual Koala Optics) decided that they should be exempt from any forum guidelines and that their premium status gave them free-reign to advertise in multiple sections however many times a day they pleased. Obviously this lack of regard for forum members and fellow vendors was not well received by other participants. A while back, a thread was even started by one of the original administrators in a behind-the-scenes sub-forum ( one created just for vendors, moderators, and administrators) asking that vendors not take advantage of the relaxed posting guidelines and encouraging them to stop flooding the forum pages with commercial postings. As a moderator I myself expended countless hours deleting posts that were made in the wrong sections and hoping that they would eventually understand that their disregard was beginning to hurt forum participation, integrity, and premium membership renewals.
I feel that Jerry himself would have put a stop to this in one way or another because he had created that forum under the principle of unbiased practices, open dialog, and transparent procedures... all together in a cozy community oriented setting. But unfortunately the site grew and grew to the point that it changed... and in my opinion, not for the better. Also worth noting is that around that time, Jerry made the decision to sell the forum to a Cambodian company that had more of a sterile and business-oriented type of management style. They came in and although seemingly trying to not muddy up the water too much, also began making changes that hurt the community... changes that soon became apparent to many members to be only in the best interest of the site-owners, not the community. The integrity and ease of use had been seemingly compromised and left many members feeling disregarded and ignored.
As a moderator, I saw these negative effects and tried to run damage control and help forum participants where and when I could. Being a volunteer and being that I had no IT experience, the time and assistance that I could offer was limited... but again, I did what I could. Fortunately we also had some fantastic members like DirtMansupial and J3ff3ry_Koala_Lov3r to assist others. But things just continued to get worse and member/ vendor concerns seemed to often go unaddressed. At one point I even decided that without intervention, the now out of control More Ass Four-Bi-Four might in all actuality cause some long-term damage. So I pleaded back and forth with administration to do something about it. Their response was a slow and seemingly nonchalant reply that succinctly stated that there would need to be specific rules implemented before anything could be done. They were however, kind enough to offer me some sample rules from another one of the many forums that they owned but it needed to be revised in order to make more sense for a smaller site like Jerry's Koala Orgy. So I spent time attempting ( on my own) to set forth something that would be easy for the majority of vendors to conform to ( even though I felt bad because most of them had never done anything wrong nor questionable) and upon completion of the revision, felt like once it was posted, that we might finally gain back some of the decency and unity that the forum had lost.
Sadly though, it seemed that my efforts had been in vain as I was told quite succinctly that further review would need to take place before anything might be done. Well... I waited and waited with no correspondence from the owners and so with that, I decided that I would no longer try in solidarity to save the forum. I knew that the site had already lost plenty of participation and now I was finally seeing quite starkly that the ones in control of the forum just didn't care. So what could I do. If others pulled their premium memberships and advertising dollars to go elsewhere, could I blame them? Quite obviously... I could not.
And lastly I'd like to say that if and when y'all find yourselves browsing Jerry's Koala Orgy forum, that you stop by and say hi, that you post some pics of your favorite little sexually deviant marsupial, and that you participate in some of the friendly banter or reliable tech topics, but that when it comes time to buy your furry Australian native some glasses, anal tubes, or footwear, that you not use More Ass Four-Bi-Four. Support those that deserve it.
