Threads being locked

I started a thread to talk about another user & how they don't know the difference between your and you're. Came to check on it and it got locked & I have no explanation or anything.

Why lock threads that don't break rules?

It's a good question too, how can someone grow up & lead a life but not know the difference between common words?

Your and You're, it only takes 5 minutes to sit down and remember the difference & you never make the mistake again.

Anyway, I don't think it's fair to randomly lock threads.

You have been a member for four years. In those four years you have started a total of four threads (two of them today and related to PP), you have a total of 32 posts.

You were so offended by the improper grammar that you had to start a thread about it !

Ok, who are you really.. what is your other forum or other user account here, because clearly you have an agenda.

Finally , YOUR an idiot !

Why?

Because when you start a thread about someone's poor grammar, that is considered to be right on the edge of trolling/ flaming.

It's one thing to become embroiled in a heated back-n-forth with someone in some kind of legitimate argument or chest-thumping grudge-match, but simply starting a thread in which the sole intent is to make the other member or vendor look like an uneducated moron is completely different. Had that thread been about poor customer service or lousy products then again... that would be a another story.

Please don't start citing examples of threads that weren't closed as some kind of "defense". Sometimes the bird shits on your head... sometimes it doesn't. Just a matter of where you're standing on that particular day.

Poly Performance - Dynatrac - Currie - Goodyear - Poison Spyder - Warn - PSC - AEV - Reid Racing - Off-Road Evolution - Flowmaster - Delta - Riddler - Micky Thompson - Daystar - Skid Row - Uniden - Rebel Offroad - Firestik - Warrior Products - Viair - HiLift - ARB - Kicker - Infinity

I don't have an agenda, I'm just getting back into posting on forums. Also, I've been mostly just looking at the for sale section.

It just really bothered me to see that someone had so much apathy towards language. I have a few poly parts on my jeep & really liked the company & I guess I was just disappointed and got affected.

I don't think it's the grammar that bothers me but just how someone can care so little in improving themselves.

Also, I attempted to not make it flaming/trolling by framing it as a question. I'm not trying to say the guy is uneducated, just genuinely curious how someone can be successful in one part of their life, and be a wreck in another. Your/You're there/their/they're is taught in english in 3rd grade I believe.

That's a discussion that should have been saved for my other thread, which got locked - which is what I'm complaining about in this one.

I'm not trying to win anything or convince anyone of anything. I wanted to complain & rant & this seemed like the place for it.

If you're not an admin or moderator then I guess you just have to deal with it. Sucks for you.

That's a big assumption on your part. How do you know he doesn't care? How do you know he needs improvement? Maybe he's perfectly happy with himself.

He needs to improve because because he can't communicate effectively with his audience.

If he doesn't want to improve ( I can't believe that ) then still - people died so we could speak English here. The least you could do to honor their sacrifice is learn the difference between a possessive pronoun & a contraction.

Mangling the language is downright un-american & in this day and age, we can't really afford to be any more un-american.

Still, that's off-topic. I think it sucks more that a thread got locked without a good justification than it is that a successful adult has a poor command of the language of his country.

The language of USA is English, you can tell by all the road signs, legal documents & that's what the constitution is written in.

Face it - an adult should know the difference between your and you're. There's no getting out of it. No excuse. It's not a "typo" and you're not "too busy" to write properly.

You should know the difference as a matter of personal pride.

Hold on for one second.

First, America is always capitalized.
Second, you can't run around playing English teacher when you keep substituting "and" with the character "&" because that is just as lazy as your/you're, etc...

I'm not playing English teacher. I'm not asking anyone to be perfect. I'm asking for someone to have a 3rd grade level grasp of English.

I think that's fair.

I think I can speak & write at least at a third grade level. If I couldn't then I wouldn't write in here at all, I would be embarrassed & would have someone help me.

I think 3rd graders know the difference between your and you're. I think 3rd graders just have issues with it's and its.

So, my point is - how can an adult be worse at writing than a 3rd grader & how come my thread got locked for no reason.

Also, people died for us to be able to write in English and I think it's important we try our hardest to use the language properly. You can't be a patriot and at the same time spit on the language our heroes gave their lives to protect.

You can't be a patriot and defend the people who mean to destroy your language with apathy & lack of personal pride.

I'm confused, who died so we could speak English? There was a revolution but it wasn't about language. That was a vote, we almost spoke German as a national language.
Ok carry on, this is so stupid it's funny.

You haven't heard of all the wars our troops have been fighting over there, so that we don't have to fight them over here? They're not doing it for fun. They're doing it so you can keep your religion, keep your language (English), keep your beliefs.

To take their sacrifices and then say 'ehh, I don't care to take the ten minutes it takes to learn the difference between words' is pretty bad.

At first I thought it was apathetic, now that I think about it, it's kind of like linguistic terrorism.

Not only are you failing your parents, your teachers, yourself and anyone who has ever fought for you to speak English - you're also making it more difficult for other people. You're subjecting other people to your disassembling of a language.

This could turn into one of those fuckin epic JKO threads.

Maybe they realize that we here folks at JKO know the fucking difference between your and you're and the context in which they are used in. Maybe he or she doesn't take us for a bunch of inbred pig fuckers. Maybe they did it on purpose to see which douche canoe goes out of their way to try to prove something which is nothing.
