Exclamation AEV High Steer Kit Not Worth The Money

So. I recently purchased the AEV "JK High Steer Kit." I was thinking it would help with my 2014 JKU with a 4" Rough Country lifts geometry. The kit is clearly for lifted vehicles right? (sarcasm) Once I started to put the lift on I realize in the kit I paid $360 for that all the brackets that came with the drag link kit were not utilized due to when the lift was put on it had pretty much the same bracketing. The AEV High Steer Kit says on the first page its designed for assumption everything is factory. So I have extra parts, a lot of them. Everything else went easy cuz I didn't need to install most of it. Most of the brackets they sent were previously installed with the 4" lift. So i was confused on why I paid that much for basically the stabilized and the one bracket that relocated the drag link from below the knuckle to over it. I believe if you are going to go this route you should buy the peices separate. Oh and here is the kicker. I contacted AEV and here is the email traffic:

to me
Hi,

Thank you for contacting AEV. The only factory parts you would re-use would be the factory rear sway bar links. We like many other suspension companies move the longer rear sway bar links to the front and provide new longer rear sway bar links. We only sell one high steer kit and we can't do a refund on individual components of a kit. What parts didn't you use?

Best regards,

Subject: Extra Parts
Message: I have currently purchased your JK High Steer Kit. With the kit it has instruction that "assume" you have factory parts. If i had factory parts why would i need the High Steer Kit? I currently have a bunch of parts that i did not use that are brand new. I feel as though I over paid for the kit when I only needed a few of the pieces since I lifted my jeep. The kit is built for a lifted vehicle, so why would the kit assume you have factory parts. Is there anyway I can return the part I never used and be refunded. Also why do you not sell two versions of the kit?

Sir,
In my first message I said that your kit assumes you have factor parts. Once you lift the vehicle you change the brackets on all lifts. By doing so you replace the factory brackets. With the high steer kit, that is for a lifted vehicle you send the brackets as if you did not lift the vehicle. Why would you buy a high steer kit for a factory set vehicle? You are selling the kit with the parts for a factory set vehicle and that makes no sense. Why would I get a high lift kit and need all the brackets for a factory set vehicle?

to me
This kit is for a lifted suspension. We install them and sell them with all of our 3.5" and 4.5" kits. Can you please tell what parts you are referring to?

12:53 PM (26 minutes ago)

to Eric
Yes that is what I am saying. If you look at your installation instruction for the JK High Steer Kit it says: (page 1)
These instructions assume you have the following factory parts installed on your JK:

JK frame and front axle with all relevant brackets in tact.

Front track bar (aftermarket units will work ONLY if they can be adjusted to stock length.

Factory steering linkage (tie rod and part of the drag link will be retained.)

Rear stabilizer end links (or equivalent length) to use in front.

The parts that are "assumed" are all parts that are replaced when lifting the vehicle from factory height to a 3.5"-4.5" lift kit from any company. Once you put on any lift from any company those previously noted items are replaced. Why would you assume someone has factory parts when they are buying a "high steer kit." The kit should only include the parts that are needed for install on a lifted vehicle between the height of 3.5" to 4.5" You include the same brackets that are previously installed in all Jeep lift kits.

to me:

It clearly states on our website that we can't guarantee it will work with all manufacturers suspensions. Please see yellow high lighted area in the picture below. I took this right off of our website.

OK, now this is gong no where. The compatibility is not the issue. You are clearly not reading any of this, or have never done the install your self. Thank you and have a great day.

That's hardly the fault of the AEV high steer kit. Just about every high steer kit out there will come with a bracket to raise the track bar an equal amount. If your lift came with a track bar bracket, you could have gotten away with just buying a factory OEM right hand drive JK drag link ( that AEV uses in their kit), drilled the knuckle for the flip, and bought the proper insert from Poly to flip the drag link to the top of the knuckle. If you have the Rough Country lift, just remove the neccesary Rough Country parts and install all the parts that came with the AEV high steer kit.

JKU2014 DOUBLE-POSTED THIS HERE AND IN CHIT CHAT (FIRST 2 POSTS ON JKO)
https://www.jkowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253017

Here's my reply there (appropriately douchetastically double-posted here ):

Quote:
Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but you're making yourself look mighty foolish there ^^^.
  • AEV's kit has brackets needed to accompany their high steer components.
  • You didn't need most of those brackets because they duplicate what came in your Rough Country lift.
  • You're pissed at AEV because you bought a kit when you should have purchased individual components?
They state that the kit is for a lifted vehicle because that shit won't work on a vehicle without a lift.

They don't say "this kit only has the shit you need to flip your drag link if you already have someone else's lift".

AEV is pretty proud of their stuff price-wise, but it's not their fault you bought a cheeseburger to get a slice of cheese.

Re-read what you posted. School me if I'm missing something.
I'd honestly like to be wrong about my take on the situation.

This ^^ the only difference is RC uses a drop pitman arm. both use a axle bracket I believe.

I musta downed the chemicals before, cuz I don't remember an ass pounding.

I edited my post twice. Once with the AEV crack and once for my shinobigatana wielding imaginary friend. We have been known to wear matching aluminum foil Shinobi shozoku and somehow ended up with a double post.

So now I guess he'll be pissed at RC for including a drop pitman that won't with his mopar, er um AEV high steer kit. If he had stuck around we could have let him know he'll need to put the stock pitman arm back on. With a drop pitman, raised track bar and drag link flip, where exactly is your roll center?
