Oil Change Warning

Is it me, or does the oil change warning go off around 3000 miles or less...when the owners manual says replace every 6K....

I change my oil every 3K, but that stupid reminder thing pisses me off every time I start the jeep...oh yeah, and because Chyrsler shut down the stealership near me, now it is a 20 min ride across a 4 dollar (each way) bridge to get those clowns to look at my jeep...way to go MOPAR.

2500 miles is what mine comes on at. Like clockwork. Switch your ignition to "on", depress accelerator to the floor 3 times, then turn off. That shuts 'er up.

Thank goodness....but here is the real question, if the owners manual says change every 6K, why have the reminder set for 2500?

Like I said, Chrysler is a bunch of dill holes....

does the oil change reminder go by mileage or engine revolutions? Hondas count the revolutions of the engine to determine when to change the oil. if you idle at redlights alot you will change your oil in less miles than if you are clicking off lots of miles at low RPMs on the highway.

Hmmmm. I've had my jeep for just shy of three years (Oct 31) and the oil change light has NEVER come on. I change my oil every 3000 to 8000 miles (worse case). I currently have just shy of 70,000 miles on it. Only the factory and first oil change were regular, I switched to synthetic at the second oil change. Most times I change around 5000 miles (except for the one 8k mile one.)

the oil change is "duty" based. So if you push it harder, or do a lot of towing, etc. it will come on sooner.

The first time mine came on was at 5400 miles. 2nd time was around 10k...

I've always change the oil at 3000, so I just ignore the indicator when it comes on.

It is controled by duty.
For those of you that have never had your light come on..............

You NEED to start driving your Jeep the way it was intended.

I've heard this too, but I don't believe it. Mine comes on at 2500 mile intervals. Not 2400 or 2600, 2500. I run synthetic and change at 5000 miles. 2500 miles after changing, it comes on. I turn it off, and 2500 miles later, it comes on.

Ive had mine come on twice in 37000 miles
pulling lots of trailers, wheeling, etc
I'd say my 'duty' cycle has been plenty heavy enough
I dunno what actually triggers the indicator

Same here. If you can get it to the "stealership", they can and will or should reprogram at your request.

If you get a programmer (check the function before you buy one, the Hypertech won't & is weak at best), most will let you set it where you want or turn it off; get the Superchip programmer, I should have.

Mine comes on the day after I have the dealership change the oil. Is the Jeep trying to tell me something???

I think it was something added mid-year to the 2007. Mine is an '07, and I had heard that the '07's did not have them. Then mine came on at 5400 miles- it freaked me out when it did because I had just finished playing in some mud, and since I thought I didn't have it I thought I messed something up.

Mine is has a June '07 build date.

that's weird... What year is yours? Mine is an '07 and my wife's is an '08. And both of them come on at random intervals... Well, I say that for my wife's because hers first came on around 3600 miles. But she only has 5000 miles right now so she hasn't driven it enough to warrant it coming on again But mine (for a fact) comes on at totally random intervals.

Initially, mine came on at 2500 and then again at 5000. After that, it's been a random number not associated with 2500.

I was doing oil changes every 3000 so I ignored it, except to shut it off.

I've got an '08 FWIW.

Mine's an October 06 build. And as for driving hard? Well, i do have the supercharger which the dealer blames for all my ills... I tow a Fleetwood E3 trailer (2900lbs DRY weight), and did that last year up to Moab and back. I have a smaller utility trailer I haul construction supplies and move the kids with. Plus i put 23000+ miles a year on the thing. So I think I've exercised it a bit... some of it even off highway. So it may be a mid year model feature change.

Just do the reset to turn it off and ignore it. I cant remember if its key off and pump the gas pedal 5 times or key in accessory position. Dealership forgot to reset mine so I just asked the guy at the local oil change place since I typically change my own.

If you don't have an owners manual, you can download one from the Jeep website.
Quote:
Change Oil Message
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change
indicator system. The “CHANgE OIL” message will flash
in the instrument cluster odometer for approximately 12
seconds after a single chime has sounded to indicate the
next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change
indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.

Unless reset, this message will continue to display each
time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN
position. To turn off the message temporarily, press and
release the Trip Odometer button on the instrument
cluster. To reset the oil change indicator system (after
performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following
procedure.
The hokey-pokey:
Quote:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not
start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three
times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

........My other hobbies include: Older cars and trucks; Spending money on unfinished projects, and continuing to not finish them...

I drive a shoit ton of miles(26000 in 8months) and the light comes on maybe a week after I change the oil. I figued that it was due to the jeep being shifted into 4hi-4lo? The manual show 3k mi oil changes if use for off road. Maybe that has something to do with it??

Im so glad i dont have all these 08 "improvements" on my jeep

I dont need a damn light to tell me when to change my oil
I dont need a damn sensor to tell me when my tires are low
I dont need a damn computer to help me start with a clutch on a hill
I dont need all this SH⁢IT

Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.
