whats this emissions stuff dangling down under the jk?

What the heck is that ribbed, plastic, squared-off contraption dangling down under the 08 JK? I crawled under the jeep to take a gander at the skinny-arse skid plates, and thought this was an awful find... I plastic thingy that protrudes down in the way - and would get snagged QUICK on anything.

Now back to these puny skidplates, mine are held in place by scrawny pipes that are mashed flat on the one end and fastened to the frame... Then the other end is some integral part of the fuel tank, itself. What kinda deal is this??

It looks weak, cheap, chincy and easily compromised.

Anybody else agree?

Yes- the OEM skids suck- very thin and dent easily. The plastic thing is the evap canister. It is part of the fuel/ emission system on the JK. It is necessary to have on there but is absolutely vulnerable. The options are to relocate it or to protect it with a skidplate. Several companies out there make relocation kits and skidplates for it. The debate rages on as to which is better to do.

Poly Performance - Dynatrac - Currie - Goodyear - Poison Spyder - Warn - PSC - AEV - Reid Racing - Off-Road Evolution - Flowmaster - Delta - Riddler - Micky Thompson - Daystar - Skid Row - Uniden - Rebel Offroad - Firestik - Warrior Products - Viair - HiLift - ARB - Kicker - Infinity

Skid plates are good, relocate kits are out there to buy, or move it yourself like I did.

I have the Kilby kit because it relocates and provides protection http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/...ilby_jk-ev.asp.

Having said that the DIY solutions with $10 of pipe from the hardware store people are doing are pretty good.

You can't buy the kit from 4xfix.com. That's a suggested retail price only. That's why I posted up the link with the discounted price. My company name is 4xfix. My store name is JeepSWAG.

For anybody who cares; the Kilby kit is 150 shipped

Buy mine for 85 shipped.

For $10 more, you get a steering stabilizer relocation kit.

Your kits is pretty good but for a few $ more itís nice to have it tucked up out of the way and covered. I put mine on 18 months ago and never even thought about the EVAP unless I read posts about it.
