Three weeks. Still not fixed!

Short version: At the dealer now for third week. Still not fixed!

Took it in for a massive exhaust leak on the right side of the engine. Turns out the exhaust manifold had come loose from the flange for the first catalytic converter. Said they tightened the bolts or something. Then I said "Oh, BTW, both locker lights just flash and the lockers don't work, could you look at that for me?"

So I picked it up last Friday supposedly repaired (exhaust and rear locker, to return it today for the front) and took a jaunt up the road 400+ miles to my brother's house. While I was there, I decided to test their repair job on the rear locker on my brother's steep gravel drive. in 4lo the rear locker was slow to lock, but it did lock. THEN (play ominous music here) when shifting BACK into 2hi, the $!%@^# cable popped off the transfer case lever leaving the transfer case in neutral. Coasted backwards a quarter mile down hill to my brother's house. Spent 45 minutes putzing around on the chigger infested ground to finally remove the transfer case skid plate and use a screwdriver to move the shift pawl back into 2wd hi.

So back to the already schedule trip to the dealer this morning. I started the jeep and said "What is THAT noise???" Turns out my exhaust leak is back also.

The only good part (so far) is the service writer finally contacted somebody at Chrysler who understands Magnuson-Moss and the rear end repair is covered under the extended warranty (minus deductible). The rear locker mechanism was broken and the new locker won't fit the old ring. So, new ring and pinion in the rear plus the locking mechanism. We'll see about the front.

I can't WAIT to see what the final bill on this SNAFU is going to be .....

Ohhh, that is the usual M.O..... its all the supercharger's fault. I think the service writer was a bit disappointed when the warranty rep said "they would have to prove it was the supercharger's fault for the failure". The dealer has blamed everything else on the supercharger. Like I said, I think the dealer finally talked to someone who understood the Magnuson-Moss act on warranty issues. And since they only get a discounted book rate for the repair, the rep is doubly disappointed. especially if the front locker is found to have broken also (rather than just adjustment).

holy chit.

i thought i had it bad last time mine was in... it was a cake-walk compared to this mess.

had it in for an oil leak. asked them to check rear main and slave. they put in writing that all was fine. get it back home, and a forkin puddle the size of a baseball forms again. bring it back, and they had it for 10 days... to fix the rear main seal. on top of that, upon removing the trans and front shaft, damaged my starter. national backorder until august. thank god the tech took one from a jk on the lot and swapped it out for me. but still, 10 days of driving a silverado drove me nuts. can't imagine three weeks...

good luck

Angry

Time marches on. Service writer called me yesterday. Said the NEW exhaust leak is two broken bolts on the exhaust manifold to head connection. Said the transfer case shift cable is broken (probably means the bushing broke). AND the front locker is broken also... so they had to order parts. Sigh.... The rental car is getting really expensive... but I'm glad I went and made the reservation for a whole week this time rather than just the 4 days at a time I did the last two weeks. At $300/wk (including taxes) this is really expensive.

They should pick up the tab for your rental or at least a good portion of it.

Wouldn't hurt to start raising hell about the rental car..... worst case they tell you to pack sand..... but you never know, they might do the right thing too. Keep talking to folks until you get the right answer.
