Texas - November 8-9 - Walnut Creek Ranch

Ok,

Iím gonna try this again, since the last event was cancelled,

November 8-9, 2008. AJE is having an open run in Bastrop. The place is not hard core, but its not just breezy easy either. I like to think of it as technically relaxing.

The place is mainly technical with tight squeezes through trees, off camber situations and hills. No rocks, just durt (yes I know I misspelled that) and trees, but a good time.

Itís a good place for built rigs or stock vehicles. Note: If you are looking for hard core, this is not it, if you are looking to enjoy a couple of days of relaxing wheeling and hanging out with other Jeepers, youíll have a good time.

Hereís the information from the AJE web site (Attached a few pics from the place from last year too for your reference):

http://austinjeepclub.proboards46.co...ay&thread=1152

This will be out at Rusty's Walnut Ranch. This is a casual weekend of wheeling so, no full blown event with Raffles, Tents or a Ring Master. This is NOT limited to members so invite everyone you like (heck invite those you don't. . .).

$30 for Sat and Sun (Nov 8-9 ). Pack for lunch on the trail both days, Plan for an organized convoy into Bastrop Sat evening for dinner, and a night run on Saturday.

No extra $ for passengers, camping, or boon-docking (no hookups available).

For those of you not familiar with the Ranch - it varies from 101 to fairly technical with some extreme off-camber obstacles, and a few hills that eat Jeeps. There are by-passes available so, a stock Jeep can avoid the most difficult obstacles. Rocks? Yeah there's 2 of them. . . Dirt? We got a lot of that. Mud? Just depends.

This is one of the few places that remains open through the Fall. It's a good place for new guys to get out and learn their vehicle. Plenty of the old-timers put time in building and running these trails.

Hate to say...about 4 hours (roughly 200 miles) taking 90 instead of I-10 to avoid Houston. Going I-10 thru Houston would probably not be much faster. But we'd love to see you, and Bastrop is a kind of neat place to visit. (and gas is pretty cheap these days). Rusty's is a great place to wheel as well.

It is an actual working ranch/ farm. I believe they have a horse arena there as well. It is about 750 acres that winds through pasture and goes through some really pretty wooded areas/ stream beds. Great traction, some off- camber stuff, technical, and some pretty steep hills. I believe that there is currently no website. Kerry can likely give some more detailed info. It is indeed a very fun place to wheel considering the small size.

The ranch is not open to wheeling except on special occasions when the Austin Jeep Exclusive sets up an event like the one in November so there is no website or anything.

Like I said, its not hard core by any means, just a fun place to wheel and get out for the weekend. Come on up, love to wheel with y'all, if you do decide to come, let me know and send me a head count so I can forward it on.

The $30 covers Sat & Sun wheeling. I looked at the link in Kerry's opening post but can't really tell if they are going to do anything for dinner on Sat night or if camping will be permitted. I know that there is a burn ban in effect currently in central Texas and since not much (no) rain is expected anytime soon, then I doubt there will be any chance of having a fire. You can check out the link in the first post for limited pics and information. Really a fun place to wheel- Not at all like Katemcy, but a great place anyway.

The $30 covers the wheeling and that money goes to the landowner. Nothing is provided, this is an informal get together, so bring your own food, etc. Like Stu said, I don't know if open fires will be allowed due to the burn ban, but I guess that depends on whether there is a way to do it in a smoke ring or something, and I don't know if there is anythin like that out there. I guarantee you if there is a way to have a fire, there will be one, everyone enjoys a fire too much.

Bekow is an update sent out by the club for this event....

Several of the guys went out and pre-ran the trails last weekend, the main Walnut Creek itself is dry, and all trails are passable. Looks to be an excellent weekend = Come on out! We'd like to get a good turnout and keep this as a place to wheel through the Fall and Winter when most other places are closed. Post up on the Forum if you haven't yet. . . Trying to get an approximate head count.

This is a casual weekend of wheeling and is NOT limited to members or Jeeps.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The actual address is 394 Pleasant Chapel Rd, Cedar Creek, TX We'll be there, untrailered, aired down and ready to hit the trails by 9am. I'd plan on a brief drivers meeting about 8:45 they will collect fee's and signed waivers then

You can Google or Map Quest it. Some of the guys will be at the Shamrock at Hwy 20 and 535 getting gas etc about 8:15

I'll have a screwdriver and an air compressor, so I guess I can do it if necessary.

By the way...I'm bringing the ("Are we gonna do that!?") girlfriend, so there should be some lively trail dialog coming from my jeep...

But we won't be able to tell which one is screaming their head off!

I can imagine the call out on the cb- It will be your wife calmly stating that she is going into labor- and in the backround, you will hear Kerry screaming- Then you will hear your wife get back on the cb and say "Can we please get some wet rags over here...Not for me, but the driver has gone into shock and passed out!"

Also an idea- We could always strap or winch that baby out, unless Kerrie would object.
