Swamp Lake - Who has done it?

Anybody out there run Swamp Lake? If so I am looking for some inside perspective. Going to camp up there and curious to know how the trail stacks up.

I've done it numerous times. Took the JK unlimited over it last year. i'll be leading the High Sierra Poker Run over Labor day. I will be leading the 2 day run.Look at the cal4wheel web site. the trail is pretty difficult. Lockers highly recommended with 35's.

We have all rubi's going, the lowest is a 2dr with a 2.5" lift and 32's. Do you think it is doable in this rig?

I would say you probably won't have any trouble. all are locked, that is the big thing.

Thanks, appreciate the input. How long did it take you to run Swamp Lake, how many jeeps did you have on the run?

Any idea how long it would take to get to Grouse Lake? And how long to Swamp?

Swamp and grouse are about 1/4 mile apart. I always camp at grouse. Outhouses at both are great. You can do the entire trail in about 10-12 hours depending on problems. Swamp and grouse are about the halfway point. Are you entering from rock creak road or the other side ( going up or down rooster rock)?

We were planning to enter from Rock Creek. Just because that is what my 4X4 book perspective is.

Is it easier one way or the other? I would rather climb then descend. Also how long does it take to get back to Shaver Lake coming out on the north side?

I hear there are a lot of tree squeezes. Need to put the top down to run it. You have any pictures of your run?

I didn't take a lot but I am told that it was the first 4 door over swamp. No scrtaches except for the skids. I will be going again on Labor Day weekend. Lots of changes since these pics were taken.

We will post some pictures of the run up soon.

Currently have some issues on the Jeep that I have to take care of in the mean time. Of course has to happen after dragging ass down this trail.

Seems the ball joints are out on my rig. Now I need to touch up the skids to make sure the thing is presentable to the dealer. Not really looking forward to all the freaking cry @ss warranty crap that is about to go down on Monday. All about how the mods caused the ball joints to fail at 20K miles.

LOL.

I wish. We came off the trail pretty good, I smacked my front DS and now have a leaky pinion seal. My brother sheared a valve stem. Other than that some skid and rail action. We missed the turn after Swamp and went down this nice little detour only to have to turn around and head straight back up. After turing around I hit a tree with my rear fender, just ended up being mostly sap.

What a great trail though. Wish I lived closer to the area. We camped under the stars. Two nights Dinkey Creek CG and one night at Swamp Lake with a bunch of Zuks.

The ball joints have been a problem before Swamp, aligned the Jeep before the trip but the problem resurfaced. Just have not had my jeep to the dealer much and the skids are pretty banged up. These ball joints seem to be a problem on the JK. 20K miles and forget it. Hopefully my dealer is cool.

Better hit it quick or you'll have to wait until next summer. Trail closes 1 Nov.
