Freeman park or Fort Fisher State Park. Both south east of wilmington in Carolina Beach.

Fort Fisher Info - many more rules, no camping. Seems more mature than freeman park which is kinda like high school graduation - bon fires, pukeing (had an army guy camping next to me last weekend puke in my jeep - gotta love no rugs), chubby 18 year old chicks.

Topsail Beach, but it is north of Carolina Beach. Still another option though.
