It seems like the Northumberland county OHV park has finally been approved.
Not quite yet. The final public meeting is scheduled for July 6th at 6:30 at Shamokin Area High School Auditorium, 2000 West State Street, Coal Township, PA 17866. Anyone who can make the trip to show support for this project is encouraged to attend. I'm going to try to make it up with some members of NJJC.
it looks as though they are allowing groups to go there and are sort of showing people around what is there and what the park will have to offer.
My understanding is that so far only formalized clubs who have their own liability insurance are being invited up at this time. Mostly it is for scenic tours showing the potential of the property, although there have been some trail cutting days in the past. I don't know how strict they are on the formal club or insurance thing, so it's certainly worth checking out.
So I'm throwing it out there to see if there's any interest on here of people heading up there to check it out. I have no idea what type of wheeling to expect, but I do know that its not too far away from where Paragon used to be, and well, Paragon was great.
I was up there in March with NJJC. The property is over 6,000 acres and they are trying to get rights to another 3,000 acres, so the place is huge. The ride was primarily a scenic tour of the extents of the property with stops at what will be some of the featured areas, such as a lake, a massive and famous geological formation called "The Whaleback," and a preview of the different types of terrain. At the time we visited there was only one rock garden open and some mild hill climbs, but a lot of land to cover. It was a full day of mild wheeling, except for the rock garden, which was a good challenge (I had to pull line, another rig taco'd his tie rod, another bent a rim, etc...).
Not much info there yet, but it's a start.
And I propose going either August 27th or 28th, to give them enough time to be ready.
I could do either but would prefer the 27th, as the 28th is NJJC's monthly RC trip. RC is about 30 minutes from AAOA, so you could head to RC on Friday, camp or stay at one of the motels in Pine Grove, go to AAOA one day and RC the other to make it a full weekend.
Possibly interested hopefully I'm lifted and skidded by then
You won't need lift or skids unless you want to do the optional rock garden, unless they've developed more areas since March. We had a bone stock WJ with A/T tires and it kept up.
I could be intrigued by this..as I might be the only North Jersey guy headed out there, will def have to coordinate something.. Christian
Not necessarily. I'm in Rockaway Twp, depending on timing we can meet and drive up together.
