It was the most gratifying offroad trip ever! We over came many problems and had an awesome time! I will definitely do it again if it does not close on us.
My buddy in a '46 flatfender Jeep had trouble with too much gear in the back and kept popping the front driveshaft out on steep uphills. He eventually lost his rear locker. and had to be dragged out of most tough patches. So it was slow going. I was absolutely amazed how well the JK did. Our group was a built 74 Cruiser, a 46 Flatfender, a 91 TJ and my 08 JK. 2 in the group have done the trail several times and said this was the worst shape they have ever seen it. Talking with Merlin who has been on duty full time to monitor the trail for decades said he agreed it was in the worst shape ever. Mostly due to lack of responsible behavior - littering, taking a crap wherever, tearing up the landscape, going beyond the boundaries, NOT treading lightly, etc.

This is an absolutely beatiful area that deserves out utmost respect and care! If you go, please do your best to preserve!

We hope to run the Rubicon in September next year. How was the weather?

Jason,
The weather was delectable (like that?). If fact, one buddy (91 TJ) is from Phoenix. He was VERY happy to be with us on the trail. clear skies in the high 70's and 50's at night. Visibility was forever!

Looks like you had a great trip! That's perfect weather. We've got a JKO group headed up there this weekend. It will be the first time I've had my JK on the Rubicon ... can't wait!

Trail's very dusty - keep things covered.
Take your spares - rocks are BIG.
No matter what - have a great time!

We just came back a couple weeks ago. That was, BY FAR, the best run I have ever done. I hope we can keep doing it every year...

Toad, You Rock. You ran Old Sluice the first time out. (jealous) I'm going to take a good look at it this weekend.

Congrats on a successful Rubicon trip.

Thanks for that.
But to be straight, we only ran about 3/4 of it. The last leg is blocked by a flatfender sized boulder you have to go over. We opted out at that point. Plus, it was dark. We're not even sure where we got out on the slab at. We'll have to go back again and see where we were

That line is actually easier than it looks. I had to be coached over it the first time as I felt like crapping myself. You naturally want to go to the right, but the easier line is going to the left. Climb the face to the left of the rock, until your rocker is even with the monster rock. Then steer into the rock and you will pivot right around it. It looks impossible, but it is pretty easy if you take the left line.

Good piece of info there. How do you feel about taking a fourdoor JK through there?
