Anza-Borrego Desert RUN

Gunny and his beautiful family and Richard & I and our daughter, Annie, all took a nice drive around Anza-Borrego. Thanks Gunny for taking us along!!!!

It was nice and sunny and about 100 degrees...so with the top up and the a/c on full-blast, it wasn't too bad....as long as you didn't get out of the Jeep, otherwise you'd instantly be incinerated.

We found Gunny and crew in Hemet and followed them all the way to Anza-Borrego.

Airing down.......

Then it was down the trail! Not too much dust since it had evadently rained recently.

Gunny took us to "The Squeeze"....fun, fun, fun...

Yeah, we got through...NO damage!

The rock formations and canyons were awe-inspiring.

For a couple of miles, way out in the desert, a crow followed us around.

It was almost creepy......

Nice. Looks like you had fun without carnage. I didn't think that was possible.
Great scenery there and that pumpkin patch is just bizarre.

cool looking rock formations/ outcroppings (some look volcanic), and healthy looking ocotillo cactus. That's the pic above the fish creek marker.

It's always awesome to see the Ca pics. You always seem to have so much fun. The family interaction (young and ol...uhh...less young) is really great!

Anza is great. We should plan a south coyote canyon run sometime in october or november. It's an easy trail, but I am thinking we could do that and then the sqeeze and heart attack hill.... how long did those two take you?

HAHAH yeah, less old......... :O) We all have a great time out here.

Gunny said that it's all an ancient sea bed, and I even found a little shell! We were not far from the Salton Sea and about 150 miles inland. I was also impressed by all the weird rock formations and the volcanic looking rocks all snug in between all the cactus and scrubby plants. The Ocotillos were SO pretty. A lot of them still had their little leaves.

Well, we left Hemet at about 8:30 and got to the trail head about 10:00 or so. We got to the Pumpkin Patch about 5 hours later. That was with stopping to eat lunch and me taking pictures. We didn't have enough time to Coyote Canyon, but I think we could cut some corners and do all that and Coyote Canyon all in one day. It should be nice and cool by November...hehehe

Gunny said Truck Haven is also good spot to try (which is close to where we were).

I'm just such a baby, I HATE the heat. Gunny and his family were all out running around in 100+ heat....I wilt......

I hate the heat too, that's why I liek the desert in the winter, top odd, doors off, 60-70 degrees, that's goooood fun! There is a great place to camp at hte end of south coyote canyon. We could plan it to end up there and whoever wants to camp can. I wont be able to, but I can drive back out by myself no biggie.

Your little trip looked awesome sorry I missed it. I would have loved to have the kids see the formations. It would be great to get out there when it's cooler because I'm another that will wilt from heat.

YES YES YES YES. A Sunday, please... October 5th is the Off Road EXPO and most folks will be there...

The 19th would be cool, too!

November is good, too...

Pack the kids and lunch and cold ones...
