Diesel Wrangler 2016

Searched and did not see anything on this:

2015 plans are in the works to introduce a VM Motori diesel engine in the U.S. Wrangler which will run on urea for the environment.

They have been using VM Motori diesel engines in European Jeeps and Minivans for a long time.

And instead of diesel, it runs on unicorn tears and emits only rainbows, right?

I'll believe this shit when I see one on a dealer lot and not a day before.

It would have to be in North Korea then because that's the only place you can find Unicorns.

I know i know. I have been hopeful and let down too many times.

All I can say is it came from inside Chrysler. I want to be able to get more info.

I believe it with all the details I got.

2014 Grand Cherokee is planned as well.

And it's going to be in the long awaited pickup, with more than enough torque. There will also be a gas V8 option.

Banks has been testing a new v6 from VMotori for military use. They even brought to a military expo this past summer which to me signals that this motor is heading for production.

Hopefully makes its way into JKs too.

Edit:

This is the motor slated for the 2014 Cherokee. Its a 60 degree block and weighs right under 500 pounds which make it viable for the JK.

AND looks like Banks will have swaps:

Chrysler has already come out and said they will be introducing a diesel GC platform, but that it would not be adapted to the Wrangler in any way, that they feel it isn't economical from their financial perspective.

Now when I read that I called bull shit since that is the exact process they followed with the pentistar before adapting the exact motor and tranny to the JK, but who knows. I firmly believe if they can develop an EPA compliant diesel power train from the GC there is no reason it cat be dropped in a JK with limited changes.

Ill believe it when it hits dealer pavement.

First of all, everyone already knows the diesel is slated for the 2014 Grand Cherokee...that's not new news.

Second, there will not be a diesel offering for the North American market until at least model year 2017. Notice I didn't say "would be", I said "until at least", as in not before...and possibly never.

My source for this information is high enough in the Fiat chain of command that I'll back up what I'm stating with a bet. If there is a factory diesel option for the Wrangler in North American by model year 2015, I'll buy you one. If there isn't, you give me a check for the most expensive Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon one can possibly build/buy from the factory. Wanna bet?

I'm not at all, actually.
I'm a huge fan for a diesel option in the Wrangler...and would sell my 2012 JKUR in a heartbeat if one was offered.

I worked at a stand alone Jeep dealership from 1997 to 2002, and I still have ties to the factory guys that developed the initial Rubicon model. My dealership co-sponsored the Jeep Jamborees that took place at Natural Bridge Kentucky, and I have personally been to 11 Jeep Jamborees and 4 Camp Jeeps(2 of which I worked).

I'm not going to name names of my contacts, it wouldn't do any good anyway...you wouldn't recognize them, and they are not on anything that's ever published for the general consumer to read.

Maybe I went too far with the "bet" statement, but I assure you the diesel will not even be considered until MY 2017.

I hope that's better, as it was never my intention to come off as an asshole.

It would be cheaper and quicker to get a European diesel version. It would be better to do an engine swap since we know they have no idea what they are doing when it comes to powering these things. Six years into production and they have a barely adequate engine and transmission, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Despite articles written by well known automotive magazines that say we will see a diesel wrangler for the 2014my.Personally,I don't believe them at all. It's not that they are lying,it's WHERE they get their info that is lying,or just talkin' shit for whatever reasons. If what you say about yourself is true, then you know what I mean.Macaroni and (un)manley talk a lot of shit that hasn't really come to fruition for us in the usa.As far as Banks doing testing and modding of the VM Motori V6 diesel for the military, they don't have to comply with the epa regs,so that doesn't really mean shit to us in the jk world. The douchbagz at the factory lied so much they don't have any cred at all.I'll believe a wrangler diesel will become available here in the usa when I see it in a fuckin' showroom for sale. Not at car shows etc.

So far, I've been very pleased with the Pentastar.
It's not perfect, but I've got 18k miles on mine and I haven't had a single problem out of it.
Power is great(stock six speed Rubicon Unlimited), and I can average an honest 20MPG cruising at 60MPH.

Overall, I'd call it much better that barely adequate.

35s, auto with 4 guys and gear the passing lane isn't even an option, in my mind that's inadequate.
