@ Luke
didnt get a price but maybe if they get enough calls and emails they will hurry up!!! As soon as a practical kit to install small blocks is released the Hemi swap market will change, in a big way. Im starting to shop for a good used drop out engine from a late model vette or GTO. sorry but screw $20,000 hemi swaps when i can get a better engine for half the price. Besides isnt figuring all this stuff out half the fun!!

People who have done the hemi swap themselves havent gotten away with it for around 10K. I dont think you can do an LS swap for much less than that. |

JSS, I know I was reading on your site about only the speedo and tach working and nothing,
Have you ever considered giving AEM a call and see if they a EMS that would work? I mean the tuner guys do it all the time and they can tie into factory equipment. You might be able to run a dual ECU setup. I know some of the mitsubishi guys I used to run with would run this setup when running a turbo engine with auto trans. I dont remember which JK forum it was, but there was a successfull LS engine swap running dual ECU's. |

I just sent ya a somewhat detailed email. Would like to find out more about the optional LS engines / Transmissions for the JK. Perferably for a 2011. I'm probably going to buy a wrecked or Salvaged 4 dr. and straight build it up from complete tear down.
Would using the stock wiring/computer/brain be easier than ditching it? And pics or info on this transmission mount option? Thanks again for your progressive thinking in the jeep world for a better engine swap.

My buddy just did a LS7 swap into his 07' rig. Here in Californiastan it's a bit of an ordeal to get all the stars in alignment to get it done and legal. He recommends getting a complete motor, tranny, and wiring harness out of a half ton truck and swapping it over. Make sure to get the VIN off the truck you're pulling from. The Ref will want it when he/she has to do a workup on the Jeeps new heartbeat. There's a lot more to it. I'm just gathering data and parts as of now so when my 3.6 takes a dump I can make the transition as painless as possible.

Pretty sure you will have to (and want to) change to the 6l80. The only way to preserve that trans is doing a hemi swap.

Re: LS series engine swap
Quote:
The 6l80 is a modern clutch to clutch low friction transmission. It has a 4:1 low 1st gear vs the 42RFE's 3:1. The 6l80 has two true overdrives ending in. 667. The 6l80 can handle over 800 ft lbs of torque and is readily available. The 6l80 is networked (can) for optimal functionality of cruise control, rpm match shifting, tap shift and more. The 6l80 is adaptive (learns) how you drive. The 6l80 is easily programmed and the same transmission can be programed to push a Cadillac or run the ¼ mile. The 6l80 is somewhat the magic transmission. Any more gears (7-9) are unnecessary IMHO with a large vvt petrol engine, which has a wide torque band. Diesels and small engines can benefit from more gears. GM has the software figured out which helps and if you don't like it tuning is easy. I know (and help) guys trying to make the 6l80 stand alone so it can be used in other apps such as the SBC, BBC and Hemi. It's tough though because the 6l80 TCM is married to the Gen IV ECM. IAT changes 1 degree and so does shifting. So my long winded answer is no with an LS you can't run the A580, but you will be better off for it. BTW we have customers go with an LS just to get the 6l80. And when I follow up with a customer after a swap they usually comment how awesome the transmission is.

I am loving my 6L80E married to 6.2 LS3. I am using Motech complete kit and extremly happy with it.
If you are thinking of doing a chevy engine conversion you should not think of any other tran expect 6l80e. You will get real benefits out of the chevy conversion. And its not expensive in the grand schema of engine conversion |
