JK throttle body?
Have you guys seen this?
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...php?p=10823191 I found it while browsing MoparSuperCenter.com I think $340 is a little steep for a TB...hell even the $310 price is a bit steep.

sounds interesting, i'd be put down as a non-believer until proven otherwise. Be interesting to see how it does, i always like to see things come out. They can, and should drop the price pretty decently by offering a core return of the stock one, since that is all it seems to be, but bored out..

Yeah, I'm thinking about calling and seeing if the money back still stands, if it does, I might give it a shot.
I'm just a non believer, 2mpg from a throttle body?

This seems like alot of Cash for a possible gain in HP and MPG. I would like to see a dyno run sheet with stock and aftermarket thottle body.
I see they are offering "money back" if your not happy. Does this mean try it for a week and if you don't think their is a improvment send it back for a refund ?

He said they're seeing around 11-15hp, and a solid 2mpg gain on the few they've got out there.

Here's some info:
------------ $310.00 That is T/B & machining. This is for a new throttle body that is machined. We will be offering a core exchange, or to send yours in and have it machined. If someone would want a Personal T/B Machined it would cost $250.00. With core exchange $275.00 due to handling fees. ------------- So basically, send yours in, it's $250. They send you one, you send yours back, $275. To buy a new TB outright and have them machine it, $310.

Do you know if they are going to stop over here and give us some more information on the "Throttle Body Exchange" along with what they have seen as far as MPG and HP gains. They have peeked my interest. Also would like contact and payment info.

My stock TB cracked last winter, the stealership wouldn't replace it under warrenty as they said it was do to abuse, after a little yelling on my part they fixed it, but was at the time a $500 part, I actually went looking for an after market one. Glad to see when I crack my again I have an option other than the stealership!

Got one of these--waiting for me to install
Hey, guys
I ordered and have recieved one of these Throttle Bodies...In fact, I have had a great email back and forth with Dave Weber of Muscle Machines who actually does the work on these for the Mopar Supercenter. The price isn't much different either option you go and whether you get it from Mr. Weber or Mopar Supercenter. The only thing I didn't ask was whether I could send him my TB and have him do the work and send it back. Maybe, worth checking into...... Dave was very helpful in suggestions on the 3.8L and is a dealer for Diablo Sport. He talked with Diablo and they acknowledged that an "adjustment" might be called for with a larger TB. They suggested a Trinity 1000 to help with this. I am due back in the States around the 20th of this month for my mid tour leave...I am going to install my catback (MBRP Offroad), new TB and a couple of other no-related and take the JK on a little trip through Monument Valley-Grand Cayon Area-and finally, Vegas. Will keep a log on my MPG. But, I have contact one of Diablo Sports Certified Tunners in Vegas. Real nice guy, hasn't done a lot with Jeeps, yet is willing to help me set it up and "MIGHT" run a dyno both ways to see the difference. I am planning to post any more info / pics once I get them. |

aye yae yae....not worth the price, if someone had a broken jk tb then maybe, otherwise it's another seat of your pants "OMG I JUST FELT SOME POWER or farted" (mod) without doing anything else to the engine...intake port matching, head to intake matching, stroked engine, custom ported heads, bigger valves, bigger springs, yada yada yada... This bigger TB will do about the same as the TB spacers...nothing ![]() A benchmark dyno before/after would be the best bet for vendors offering these onsie~twosie type mods. A combo meal with a tuning pkg, CAI, TB, exhaust before/after dyno would be really nice to see one day. Last edited by SASQUATCH; 02-02-2010 at 01:06 PM. |

Or you can all wait for the 2011 3.6 Penstar Motor. Just got confirmation on that. 280hp at 4600rpm. No Diesel though.

I've installed throttle bodies on several other vehicles I've had. My PT Cruiser, my Dakota, my other Jeep, and two neons.
In all of those cars I did notice a throttle response difference. In everything but the Dakota, I noticed a fuel mileage increase. I'm not saying its going to add 10-15hp or a buttload of torque, but it may pick-up the fuel mileage. To bash this product without having one actually on your vehicle is kind of unfair.

The person I've been emailing back and forth with is keeping an eye on this thread and forwarded my emails to the guy that builds them.
I think I'm going to try one based on their return policy. I keep track of my fuel mileage in a spreadsheet for each tank of gas. If it works ill keep it, if not, I won't.

oooh throttle response
so in other words you find out a couple seconds faster that your hamster wheel is slow as shit![]() ![]() throttle response.... better gas mileage.... why castrate your jeep and try to make it a civic? MORE POWER = GEARS or HEMI BETTER GAS MILEAGE MEANS = NOTHING WHO FUCKING CARES! next thing you know you will be pulling off big tires so your axles don't bend ![]()

The man just wants a little gas mileage.Anything else is cherry. I know that larger T/B's do work. The more air you can push in and out of your motor the better it will run. If not NASCAR would not run restrictor plates to reduce horsepower. Plus all those JK guys slapping HEMI's in looking for extra horses. Why not step up and run a 426 or 392, maybe evan a 540. You could run low 11's in the 1/4 mile, because they sure as hell don't have any low end torque like we all strive for. Plus it is heavy as hell. And I am a MOPAR guy. But run Chevy in my trail rig. At least little products like this are starting to come out for the JK. I'll take all the little things added together over a $20,000 Hemi swap....fuck that.
Gears are just a necessity to run larger tires IMO, running 4.88s on 33s to get increased performance would be stupid, not to mention killing the MPG at cruise.
