Talking 2010 Natural Green Pearl Coat

Not much of a revelation, but here it is. As you can see, it's very similar to Jeep Green.

I took these pix yesterday under clear skies, but the exposure leaves something to be desired. I will snag a few more this afternoon or tomorrow am.

More pix in the sun:

It's not metallic huh? It does look very much like Jeep Green. I wonder if that's the only difference.

That has to be metallic, looks like it is. It's ok, that color reminds me of my Moms brand new 79 Ford Fairmont station wagon, probably looks better in person though.

I don't think so. Some colors are called "xxx Metallic Pearlcoat" Here's the best answer I could find searching the net.
Quote:
I believe that currently a pearl coat is a clear coat that is tinted. In the old days, a pearl coat was a translucent coat put over a base color like white. Think about the rainbow haze on the inside of a clam shell. These were what the translucent colors were like except you had to apply a different coat for each different color you wanted. On a curved surface the color changed like today's chameleon paints except whole color didn't change, just the tint of the reflection.
Today's pearl coat is much less noticeable. Probably mostly sales hype. I think you treat it just like regular clear coat but wait for Gary's answer to be sure.

Just shows you shouldn't believe everything you read on the net!

I wasn't implying that "pearl" and "metallic" were the same, they certainly are not. However, you'll find that most "pearl" automotive paints also have metallic components, which give them their "pearlescent" properties. Technically, the metal flakes in "metallic" paints are slightly larger in size. Chameleon paints are another animal altogether, even though they also share some properties of pearls and metallics. Obviously, there are many, many combinations of paint formulas these days.

Cool thanks for clearing that up

So do you think that pic I found is the REAL Natural Green Pearlcoat and the op might be Jeep Green Metallic? Or my picture just poorly colorized, and maybe NGPC is just JGM with Pearlcoat and no M instead of Clearcoat?

I would not be able to speculate on what color they've "named" Natural Green Pearlcoat. The designers and marketers can use any "name" they want for any given color. But, knowing that "Jeep Green" was discontinued and the new color name published for 2010 is "Natural Green Pearlcoat", one could safely assume that the pics posted of the new Jeep are indeed "Natural Green Pearlcoat". There has never been a reference made to "Jeep Green" pearl or metallic for the Wrangler that I'm aware of, so I doubt if that color exists.

Sorry Jimmy, I guess I'm muddying the waters pretty badly. What I'm really trying to ask (to Jason or Dubya really) is since I have 2008 "Jeep Green Metallic Clear Coat Exterior Paint $150.00and it looks almost identical in some pics to the op pics. Do you think the shade of "Natural Green Pearlcoat" is similar in real life to mine or the ugly lighter green I found above?

No problem...we Jeep lovers like muddy water don't we?

Shows what I know...I always thought that "Jeep Green" was a "flat" color. I never realized it was a "metallic"! Thanks for clearing that up. Now, I sure hope that "ugly" green that you pictured is not going to be used on the Wrangler!

Negative. This is indeed the new color. Here is the window sticker:

I took some more shots about an hour ago, and although the sky had cleared, the vehicle in question was situated in the shade. I'll try again tomorrow am.

Gold Knight- to me this looks a hair lighter than Jeep Green. Side by side I think you would notice a difference, although slight. As you can see in the pics from this afternoon, it is very dark (the Jeep to the left of it was black). I didn't check for the metallic flakes in the paint, but I will do so tomorrow. Also there is no $150.00 fee for this color listed on the sticker.

I bet its just a shade or two different. I will see if I can park them side by side when I actually get one to get a picture of!

Dubya, you freaking rock!!

I've been sorta going bonkers waiting to see pics of this new color. Ordered a Rubicon last week (in this color), praying it'd be close to the Jeep Green that I've always liked.

Now I can find something else to obsess over the next 6-7 weeks.

Thanks again man!!!!

At least as seen in pics, doesn't look much different than the new Charcoal, very bland IMO. Obviously in person it could be much more appealing. I wish they would use the Olive Green that they currently have available on the Grand Cherokee.
