No it doesn't matter as long as it gets a good ground. It's just easier to goto the winch motor if the box is in the original location.
With the box next to the battery, the battery ground was easiest.
That's the ground wire for the solenoids in the controller box.

That solenoid fits in that area by the battery damn near perfect!

Anyone try this with the wireless controller? Does the shielding of the hood or interference from under the hood componants cause any range problems for the wireless controller?

Another question for those that have done it this way with the longer cables.

How is the resistance of the longer cables when doing it under the hood as opposed to the short cables and the box mounted in the intended position? I only ask, because sometimes when you have a large amperage draw, the more resistance you have. And the higher the risk of burning out your cables and possibly a fire. Electronics experts, correct me if Im wrong, as I an not one.

The power cables run the same distance.
The winch is still on the bumper and the battery is still under the hood.

Ground cable still carries the ground. Only difference is there's a positive run now for each direction -in/out and the solenoids switch it at the battery instead of at the winch.

I answered my own question. I picked up some 2ga cables and installed the solenoid box by the battery. The wireless controller works great.

I ordered an Engo 10K from Chris at jeepaddons.com and it came with one installed even though I didn't order it that way.

If I remember right, Chris said the wireless controller was a $20 add-on for the winch. I declined because I was planning on putting the solonoid box on the front where it would be easy to use the wired controller. I'm so glad it came with my winch anyway! Thanks Chris!

same for mine, it pulls up a little when disconnecting the remote cable but if you hold it down its easy enough. once the hood is closed there is no way it can jump out of its place.
