I did the same thing....

The sound is OK, but I did it mostly because I couldn't freakin hear the motor at idle...

Not to mention, I bet it cut 15lbs off the vehicle weight, the stock muffler is 31" long!!!

I'm so scaredd of getting an exhaust and sounding like a Honda. Ive heard some pretty bad sound clips in the little bit of searching I did. Guess you cant hope for TOO much with a 3.8 V-6 but I would get this done tommorrow if I could find one that tucked away nicely and sounded good.

The stock muffler is held on with one bolt and a hanger.

Just pull your stocker off and throw it on if you need it for smog test

That's good advice, lube it up and go at it with a pry bar.

Just tried to grab a video w/ sound using my digital camera but the video has no sound. Think my cameras mic is busted and I dont know how to get video off my camcorder onto my PC Sounds ok. Definatly will let me know if Ive forgotten to shift or am over 3K RPMs heh. It does sound good in the 600-2000 range tho.

And yes sorry. Ill post up a new thread if I can get a sound clip of the muffler-less exhaust sound.

We don't have smog tests here, so I have no idea what they involve, but the muffler just deals with sound. The cats deal with pollution and they would still be there.

I believe not having a muffler is an automatic fail on the visual inspection. Its rough here. Automatic fail if any aftermarket engine parts (headers, CAI) do not have a CARB number on them also.

I have heard of people in CA failing the SMOG based on the visual inspection before as well. Which is silly considering it has nothing to do with emisions like phil said

and I know here in PA, for state inspection, your exhaust must exit to the edge of the body. It can do this anywhere, as long as its behind the passenger compartment, which, on the jk's I guess would have to be all the way to the rear. I ran mine with the muffler off before I put my new exhaust on and I thought it sounded pretty good. Only thing I didnt' like was the popping out the exhaust when i left off the throttle.
