Dubai JK Mod Part 1

I meant to get these pictures up sooner but have had a few things keep me busy for the last few weeks. This is 2009 Sahara 2 Door located in Dubai.

Next stage will be new wheels, tires (33" Discovery STTs), 4.88 gears, Kilby OBA (with RiverRaider EVAP relocate kit/air tank skid (any reviews?) and ARB Airlockers.

Any questions post them and I will answer in a timely manner. I did most of the work myself excluding the lift and the Snorkel cut in the hood.

I am ordering the RamAir attachment for the snorkel after much debate over the jeep looking like a tractor...

Forget those 33 go for 35's....what's with a snorkel in the desert???

Its a big debate on the 33-35 issue. 33"s are much better for the long runs when a fuel station is 200-300 miles away...

Snorkel comes in handy for cooler air delivery to the engine. Its 48 here today (119 F) in the CITY. Ouch... I am split 50/50 on Desert Sand trips and Wadi Bashing. Wadi's get flooded easily in the fall and I found my self in some crappy situations (taking an hour detour when every other rig could just plow through). I know a large number of guys that run them and find the cooler air delivery is enough for them when trekking through the Liwa Dunes. Great Link for people who have never seen it

I believe form should follow function. An a RamAir filter would be a bad idea in the sand, all it's going to do is deliver sand faster to the air box. You may be able to find a prefilter shaped differently, but I don't see a problem with using something for it's intended purpose especially when there seems to be an obvious need. You may also be able to find an inline prefiltere, but I don't know if it will deliver enough air as small as it's going to have to be.

Great start on the Jeep! I like the Spod

Looking good so far. Have to agree with Ram scoop forcing more fine sand into the air box. Turning the scoop to the back when in the dunes would help though. But, looks like you need to check your front end alignment (First Photo). Looks like you have way too much toe out.

I feel the same... The biggest reason for the pre-filter is that I am running a ProDry S filter from aFe and with out the oil they are are more susceptible to sand passing though to the engine I debated on an Oil based filter but I see too many trucks have issues where the filter clogs up with sand (due to the oil) and restricting the airflow to the engine. Oh and BTW removing the airbox top with AEV Snorkel to clean the the filter is a PITA!!!

Just my thoughts...

Have seen the scoop turned around a few times... Idea....

The toe out I believe is just the angle the picture was taken at. "Running out to take a look now"

Nice jeep. Being in the Navy for 14 years, I have been to Dubai 20 times. Love that place. Next time i am out there i will look you up. Maybe we can hit the dunes!!

I am always open to guests! We have a pretty large group here and stay VERY active. There is a trip everyday of every weekend.
